This is the kind of quote that makes me think he'll never get it

Manny said that despite the report, he had not fully made up his mind about Enos and wanted to see how this LA Tech game went:

“We still had a chance in the bowl game to see could there be potential for any improvement with the idea of, ‘Hey, this is something that can be turned around and get better’ ... Obviously the way that we performed in the bowl game just showed that was not the case.”

So, my desire for us to rip apart LA Tech, appears to have been ill placed. According to this quote, assuming it's not just coach speak (and I suspect it isn't), if we had ripped apart LA Tech like any team with our talent should have done, Manny would've pulled a Golden, and kept his buddy.

Wow. I mean, since he is coming back for one more season, I foolishly am hoping against hope that just maybe, we can have a positive season in 2020, but reading this quote... just wow....

There is no point in beating this up.

We are in a win, win situation. Either Manny finds lightning in a bottle with the most important hire of his head coaching career or he is fired and goes on to coach linebackers in 2021 or 2022.

It is that simple.

I agree, but the point to add is that Manny's D under Blake Baker is not exactly going well either. We lost the UNC game on a 4th and 17 breakdown and Vatech scored over 40 on us. Plus, FIU and duke beat us as well. Our D has been ok but nothing special.

My point is this UM football team has a lot of issues and it won't be fixed with the current leadership.

People already knew weeks ago that Dan Enos was gone...in fact the press was reporting the morning of the bowl game...Manny isn't being honest here.

For our sakes, I hope you're right and this is just coach speak. If it's legit, 2020 is another wasted year at the U.

Manny's brand of defense is only overwhelming when they get TURNOVER'S. Enter the 2017 season. When Manny's type of defense ( High Risk. ) doesn't get those turnover's then this the type of season Cane fan witnesses. The same goes for last season too.

Manny says " we have some GOOD offensive assistants on the staff. So all we have to do is get the OC. " Paraphrasing him now.

Right there indicates this dude is OUT OF HIS LEAGUE regarding the HC position! Yikes.
Dont think he was talking about all of them chief (Hickson and Field are good in my book). Also, the OC is going to have authority over who he retains so it's a moot point.

I would argue he was learning on the job during those games because he completely removed himself from playcalling duties which is unfortunate but that happens with a brand new head coach.

Not excusing it.

Not excusing any of this but the defense was clearly different with him being involved.

You seem to suffer from an absence of common sense. Enos was fired immediately after the bowl game which meant that the decision to part ways was made before that (report leaked day of game). This was all coach speak and it's clear they didn't want to make a move until after the early signing period.

I'm still up in the air with Manny as the Head Coach...but yes, people knew about Enos for a while...I heard it from more than one source...and go back and see when the reports were coming out early in the morning hours before the game

I'm guessing the exact day that Enos was fired had to do with his buyout. If he was fired before the end of the season, he probably would have been owed a bigger buyout. Pure speculation on my part.

Actually, that sounds right.

What win-win? We'll have to suffer for another year when everyone knows Diaz blows.

Mark this on calendars as a moment where the Empirical One agrees with Hegemon.

Cue dramatic music.

Our defense definitely took a step back this year, but I'm wondering how much of that was due to the offense. The defense is going to get gassed pretty quickly after endless 3 and outs by the offense.
