I’m ngl - we got outcoached this game. More dumb penalties (ofc some were nitpicky, still upset about the Toney punt return that got flagged on some hoe ****), insisting on the same run concepts over and over with everything between the tackles until that Toney reverse it felt like, and despite the late effort, our defense got punched in the mouth in the run game. We made stops, but we got outschemed there too with our gap integrity.
Credit to Brohm and UL, that defense came to make a statement and played just as fast and confident (if not more) as our guys. Their O did a solid job of getting the ball out quick and staying on schedule. That Bell TD was a backbreaker, and it’s tough to win when you dig yourself a 14-pt hole. DL was kinda neutralized due to their gameplan, but we couldn’t get home when Moss dropped back.
Offense needs to do some soul searching outside of 10. Can’t really blame our backs when they are being set up for failure time and again with predictable calls. CJ did what he could. Marion did ok. TEs leave MUCH to be desired. This was probably the last solid defense we face in conference, and they tired our OL out at the end. Guys playing with their feet stuck in the mud, false starts, felt like we were loafing at times.
And while two picks were tipped, there’s NO excuse for a vet like Beck to have played the way he did. He went back to Superman tendencies pushing the ball downfield and forcing **** he didn’t have to. On different occasions when running lanes opened, it seemed like he wanted to make the big play instead of just eating up easy yards. Throwing off his back foot into coverage, getting sloppy in the pocket, etc. Again, credit to UL’s defense for playing hard, but ain’t NO WAY Moss should ever outplay Carson.
On to Stanford. Gotta win out, simple as that. We still control our destiny, but we kinda got exposed tn. Time to nut up - you either a dog, or you dog food.
