This Is How You Win Championships

So that limits us to Pete Carol

I'll take it.

Sure, he's a dictator coach, and that style wins. Think Meyer, Belichick. But it has to be at the right place. He has every advantage over every other program in CFB. Alabama spends more on the football program than any other team, employing hundreds. He would NOT have the same success at most every other school.

A good read.

Some things stand out to me:

Hmmm....I've heard that phrase somewhere before.

Suspensions aren't a problem at UM right now. Neither are players getting kicked off the team. There's that word again....

That *******. If only.

Jimmy Johnson style.

I'm sensing a theme here.

I think UM is at the end of moving out the dead weight. This season has sucked but I think better days are ahead. I can agree that some fundamental changes should be looked at. At my alma mater, Appalachian State, Jerry Moore won a lot of games but never the big one. In fact, there were rumblings of a change in leadership around that time. 2004 saw a dismal season. Coach Moore took his staff up to WVU see the very same Rick Rodriguez to study their spread offense. They took that and won the next three championships along with a win at Michigan in 2007. A solid staff contributed to that but the new offense was the spark that was needed. Man, I hope Coach Richt can see what we all saw the past two games and implements more of those concepts. There wouldn't even have to be any staff turnover (which isn't happening, folks).

You're a student of the game my friend, as I am. Although I am from the 305 and a die hard canes fan. My Father got a job in Georgia for 20 years, some of those within MR's UGA tenure. All you hear in Georgia, no matter where you live, has to do with the UGA, so I became quite familiar with MR. You can rest assured that MR is neither an open minded person nor open to changes. So my friend, you can rest assured that he'll continue to crash and burn down the current path. That's the main reason UGA fired him.

A chunk of this article was about the depths of the UA program when he first took it over. The dude basically had to reach up to touch bottom.

Revisionist history. Saban took over after 2006. In 2005, Alabama was 10-2 and finished #8. Let's not act as though he walked into SMU and did this.

So you're saying that Mark Richt got worse and worse for 15 years at Georgia? That's funny, since he finished 12-2 and #4/#5 in his 12th year there.

Too many Saban ball lickers on here. And too many idiots acting like there are nick sabans walking all around the US. lmfaoo the stupidity

It's funny how all these saban nut sack worshipers come into a Miami Hurricane forum with sabans sperm all over their faces. They wear it like a badge of honor.

That is not what I said. Re-read post. MR was fired from UGA for being stubborn, closed minded, not receptive to changes which could have led him toNational Championships. UGA Admin. got tired of these and the Orlando/Tampa Bowl games . Jagr it's very obvious that you're an MR fan looking to shoot any program improvement suggestions critical of MR full of holes. Let's just agree then that you are right and UGA was wrong. By the way, who is playing in the SEC Championship game this weekend? Could it be UGA under Kirby Smart for the second year in a row? Nah!!!

All I did was quote you. If that's not what you meant, either edit your post or learn how to express your thoughts more clearly. You said that he continued to crash and burn at Georgia. Finishing 12-2 and in the top 5 isn't a decline from previous years.

FYI, Mark Richt also took Georgia to the SEC title game in two of his first three years, so maybe let's now crown Kirby Smart just yet.

The OP says "It ain't rcoket science" The article has a lot of details describing his success. However, just discipline and recruiting isn't enough. In fact former Saban coordinators have tried and failed at major programs. Muschamp anyone?

I hate when posters think it isn't brain surgery when the average brain surgeon or rocket scientist would love a college football head coach salary.

There is no guaranteed formula for success in Coral Gables, and the closest things to it require a much larger budget.

Well, I tend to agree.

That's why I think the OP misstated it a little. No one can become Saban and many have tried. I think the real point is it is worth trying to be more like him than not.

Wait, Richt isn’t as good as the best coach in the history of college football?

Well nobody told me that. This changes my opinion about EVERYTHING!

Thanks OP, this has been a real eye opener!

The OP means we need someone with Saban's approach to football not necessarily Saban himself. Meaning a coach who eats sleeps and breathes football. Has anyone ever heard of any of Saban's hobbies besides football? I doubt he has any thats what the OP is talking about. Kirby Smart same way and all of sudden he his team playing for the NC in year 2 what a shot at another playoff birth. Guys like Saban, Smart, Urban and Jimmy would fire their own mother, son, uncle, cousin and nephew if it meant winning. Sorry Richt ain't it.

Good info !!

But like all things in life, that is only ONE of many different blueprints for building a championship program........NOT THE ONLY blueprint.

It shows how Saban did it and has many good insights as to how he dealt with his situation at Bama. But every situation is not like Bama..... nor does every institution have Bama's history or resources.

While Saban MAY be the best,........he's not the only coach that has built championship programs

I've filed this under "Good to know "

You still refuse to talk about your solution. Let's hear it!!!

No shortcuts boys and girls. That's why we are where we are as a Program today. This is what it takes. It ain't rocket science. Does MR or Adam Gase have these qualities? **** NO!....Riviting reading!!!

When you read the rest of this board, then you realize how disconnected from reality our fan base is.
You're a Dolphins fan and you bring up an article about the excellence of Nick Saban??

If you've ever wondered about Nick Saban the coach without bagmen on the staff, just take a look at his tenure with the Dolphins.

Saban is one of the best coaches ever, but he has every advantage afforded to him. Does anyone believe he would be this good if he couldn’t pay every 5 Star and have the best roster bar none every year? Everything being equal Saban wouldn’t have half the rings he does. Just my opinion
Great point. I am sure Bama is paying top dollar for their players. Either that, or they get the player's parents some nice gigs like Tua's Dad.

A Democratic process is the best and worst process on planet earth. It is the best for everybody gets to participate in it, conversely it is the worst for that is exactly what you get, all of this ****!!

Then it's over boys and girls. Last person out please bring the keys with you!! You're not a Democrat are you?? More money is the solution ha! How bout hiring you or me for about $500K. I will GUARANTEE YOU that we would do a better job than MR!!

Take a look at the programs at the top in college football and see how much they pay in terms of administrative/staff costs. In college football more money isn't the only solution, but it goes a pretty long way. How does the saying go, "you gotta spend money in order to make money."

He's the only coach that has replicated the success of the 80s/90s Canes. I think that is what this post is all about...how do we get back to the old glory days. It won't happen unless we get a coach so obsessed with winning and a system that everything else takes a backseat. Be it right or wrong, Richt ain't that guy.
