This has to be the most illegitimate conference championship of all time

I’ve long held the belief that the top programs are going to eventually take their ball and play on a different park. It’s already started to happen with it essentially becoming a “Big. 2” conference format. I believe that even the Biig 2 are going to trim fat and distance themselves from the Purdue’s and Rutgers of the world. I believe a majority of the SEC, the top half of the big 10 and a handful of profitable football programs from the ACC and BiG12 will have their own football only league that is completely separate from the NCAA where they make their own rules.

You’re probably right, I wouldn’t be a fan of this happening though. I’m hating what’s happening with consolidation of the p4 conferences right now. I don’t know what the answer is but I don’t think it’s good for the overall health of CFB.

UVa and NC State both had an open slot on their schedules, so they agreed to play a "non-conference" game that would not factor into the conference standings.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. I'm not mad at either of them, rules are rules, but it is somewhat comical that the loser of that game has the "best conference record" in the ACC.

Not illegitimate because the two opponents were selected based on the same criteria everyone was measured by.

Not the smartest or well thought out? Fair criticism.

ACC never envisioned FSU or Clemson not in tne 2-team mix with these tie-breakers.

On the positive note, the games would be a lot more competitive. Imagine if every week, every team was playing someone who could actually beat them? Look at Ohio State’s schedule this year. They played what turned out to be a very average Texas team week one and then had 10 straight games against teams that had no shot at beating them. Waiting until the final week of the regular season before a team gets tested is pretty lame.
 
I have never understood why the schedules weren’t “massaged” for both opponents and bye weeks. I understand they were likely created by some computer generated program but that doesn’t mean they can’t be manually adjusted. The inequality of schedules, as evidenced by the ACCCG game could have been addressed months ago. Same with the bye week distribution.
I recently saw an article on the BIG10 schedules and they uniformly have their bye weeks set up for after 4-5 game blocks.

I find it hard to believe that wouldn’t be possible. Seems the aCC leadership makes it harder in so many ways for their member schools to be successful.

Yeah living here in Charlotte the weather is supposed to suck this weekend. Cold rain all day Friday and Saturday morning. Might clear by the game but it’ll still be cold and damp. I’m not complaining since we desperately need the rain and don’t care about that game for a second. Will not watch.

This is why you just copy the SEC and schedule a cupcake 3rd or 4th to last week of season to artificially give yourself a bye
 
Why the **** would you skip over highest ranked teams in a multi team tie situation and go straight to win % vs common opponents? WHY? Why would you not have that be the absolute last thing?

Even if Miami somehow gets an at large as the #10 team in the country, your best team isn’t in the ACC Championship game in favor of two teams who didn’t play UM and who aren’t ranked.

How could people handling all this money be so ******* dumb?

They will keep them, too much money in the P2 leagues. What you will see is guaranteed slots for top 3-4 teams of each of those conferences and then they have conference championship weekend which pit 1v2, 3v4, 5v6. So everyone will tune in to 1v2 and 3v4 because those teams will be battling for seeding. But the P2 5v6 takes on even more interest because that winner also gets into the tourney.

ACC and Big12 get 2 each, so that’s 14 teams. 1 G5 and then one more at large bid that goes to ND or if they suck, goes to one of the other P4 teams.

Those ADs aren’t going to remove one person. They let the commissioner write their own checks - just as long as they cut them a check at the end of the year too. They are not asking the hard questions about how the last administration used nepotism in every business deal they did.
