Usually the players take the personality of their coach, aka the defense takes the personality of Hetherman. I hope this guy stays at least a few years. It’s beautiful watching this defense. The best part is it’s sustainable, with the way this staff recruits. Even if Hetherman leaves, this is the blueprint of what Miami defense under Mario should always look like.
The way this defensive line is playing do you think anyone will have time to test them? The teams that have passing game with the ability to test them Louisville, Syracuse, SMU all have mid offensive lines. Lagway threw for 287 against LSU and 61 against Miami, they wanted to pass but the defense line got pressure on 79% of pass attempts.I'm cautious optimistic. But we haven't seen the back-end tested yet, but if the the d-line keeps it up - they shouldn't get tested too much before the postseason.
Kirk even commented on how we had 3 straight plays with potential knock out shots. Very, very few teams are doing this anymore. Bama was the most recent with guys like Minkah playing like this. That Toure clip that was posted
I believe that was in that sequence of three plays in a row where we absolutely laid the wood no pause
First time I’ve seen that from this defense in a long time. Little old school sounds.
Yeah when you hear the crack like that you expect the game to be stopped for a review now. Three in a row it’s like a return TD where you just scan the field for a flag first before celebratingKirk even commented on how we had 3 straight plays with potential knock out shots. And for those who question how different it is schematically from the Manny days one thing I noticed is that Heatherman rarely sends more than 4. Unlike the Manny days of sending 5-6 and hoping they get home. Personnel plays into it a lot as well. Having guys like Lightfoot who are solid in dropping as well as they are in getting upfield. Really a fun defense to watch.
