Miami football is 42 days away from kicking off in Stanford, California. Here on CanesInSight we are getting you ready for the season by naming two Hurricane players who are expecting to take a huge leap this season.

WR Daylyn Upshaw

Someone in the Miami Hurricanes wide receiver room is going to emerge and take a huge leap in the depth chart. One player who is poised for a big year is Daylyn Upshaw. This past season, he played in five games, recording a total of seven receptions for 105 receiving yards. He suffered a foot injury ahead of the Hurricanes 2025-26 College Football Playoff run, which sidelined him for the rest of the season.

The Hurricanes have a loaded wide receiver room: Malachi Toney, Cooper Barkate, Cam Vaughn, and Dre Jacobs headlining the group. However, Upshaw has the potential to step up this season and play quality minutes.

RB Jordan Lyle

Miami retained their entire running back group from last season. They have arguably the best running back group in the country. The question everyone is asking: who is going to be the No. 2 running back? The Hurricanes have quality options in ChaMar Brown, Jordan Lyle, Girard Pringle, and Javian Mallory. The one player with the most potential to make the biggest impact would be Lyle.

Last offseason, he earned the No. 1 starting spot in the Hurricanes backfield. Unfortunately, he went down with a lower-body injury against Notre Dame after five snaps. Two months later, he returned to the field against Florida State where he would play limited snaps behind Mark Fletcher. He played in a total of six games, carrying the ball 35 times for 108 rushing yards.

Lyle...obviously not great last year. But, just remember, we had a kid named Rueben Bain here in 2024 who got hurt early in the first game. He came back later in the year after missing multiple games, and we had folks here who said he wasn't very good. And then when he was fully healthy in 2025, he put those words on the end of his cleat and kicked them down porster's throats. I'm not saying this is apples to apples because obviously Bain had a better true freshman year than Lyle, so he proved he could do it consistently. But I am saying I'm not willing to write off a kid entirely who had a bad season after he was injured in literally the first half of the first game and missed multiple contests. Let's not forget, the entire offensive staff felt he was the best back on the roster last August.....

I'm certainly not writing off Lyle. But his FR year was not in the same universe as Bain's FR year. I think a lot of posters here make too much of one long run he had in mop-up time against an inferior opponent where he basically had an open field. And some cherry pick the one publication rating him the #1 RB out of H.S. (even though most rankings had him considerably lower).

IMO the staff went with him to start last season because Fletch was coming off injury and Marty and Pringle hadn't played a snap for us. IMO he's clearly behind those 3 guys in pecking order.

That said, I hope he ends up being a great RB for us.

I like the little I saw of Upshaw. But that WR room is really crowded.

The week before Lyle's 91 yd run Ajay Allen had back-to-back 34 & 56TD runs vs Ball St

These runs are fun to watch & happen early in the season when we're excited to have football back

But these runs against overmatched non-P4 teams shouldn't factor much in a RB's evaluation

I've been waiting to hear any updates on Lyle's off season work before having any predictions?? did he get quicker/faster, work on this footwork??? did he shred fat and gain muscle??? from this past season coming off injury or still being injured he looked sluggish, so any positive gains should be pretty obvious.

To me, Brown is in his own category because his skillset is unique. He will get touches in some of our biggest games/drives (just like last season).

Lyle and Pringle are going to be competing for playoff snaps during our ACC games. That's the battle to watch

I don't know one way or the other for Upshaw, but Joshua Moore doesn't even get a mention... Am I wrong to think that he is flashed enough last season to be in contention?
