Consider deleting “an” from the title of your thread.

Seems like more coach motivational speak. He previously said something similar about summer workouts in general and QBs in particular - although no boat reference.

I would think that by now the staff has a pretty good idea of what they have. Maybe they’re looking or hoping for that “separation” where the position battles are very close.

Manny understands we go into the Florida game as underdogs ... His coach=speak is not just for the players, but for the Coaching staff as well.

Sure it’s coach speak but he spins the truth - these next 6 days and Scrimmage #2 of Fall camp will be the deciding factors on numerous positional battles, namely who’s starting at QB on 8/24 for the Canes. I hope someone steps up there and separates themselves versus elimination by process down to who’s the starter. Same for the OL as well although we’ve heard the same 5 have worked throughout practice together, I wonder if any last minute changes come about due to their play. I’m hoping having to go up against the likes of our DL has helped them work as a cohesive unit. What other position battles are you all looking forward to this week?

Besides QB I am very interested in seeing if Herbert can keep the RT spot and if Nelson holds on to the LT spot. Other than that the CB job opposite Bandy and the top 2 safeties. The rest is pretty much already decided IMO.

Agreed. Lord if we start Nelson I’m praying that he’s done everything to earn it. Same for Herbert as well. I think having Scaife, Gaynor, and Donaldson inside is going to help our power rushing attack. The secondary is my other area to watch; I’m of the ilk that Ivey and Blades will solidify the other CB spots and that Hall and Carter will be the starting safeties come 3 weeks from now. But won’t be surprised to see Bolden start from @game 3 on with Gurvan.

Nelson certainly will be the key. IF that kid holds his own game one against a pass rush like the Turds will bring, we are going to be fine. If we have to start shuffling guys around in game because he's not ready, it may become an ongoing problem for us.

Agree, I think having those three (Scaife, Gaynor & Donaldson) will have a positive impact on our running game ... which we need to establish early. I do however see Smith having something to say about crashing the starting lineup along side Hall when it's all said and done.

This is working out just like I thought it would....I often wondered why Herbert wasn't getting serious run. His testing numbers were always right there in terms of what the other guys were doing. I'm very proud of that you man.

I’m happy that he is fully healthy and showing the promise that made him a solid 4star recruit. One way or another, over the next couple years I think we can expect to see him playing meaningful snaps, even if he is a swing backup tackle
