There's a Path

This is not Saban's alabama.
They lost by double digits to FSU.
Narrowly escaped Auburn.

They are not a guarantee. We may jump them this week. They haven't looked great.

No one in the SEC has looked great which is why having 5 of them is ******* baffling. They should have 3 at most but I can see the argument for 4. After that it's BS. There are holes in all of their resumes... TA&M beat no good SEC team... ******* SC blew it, Ole Miss might not only lose the coaches but also players, OU is garbage and other than them being Alabama's version of Louisville and winning a weird game, they got blown out by Texas, got a phantom call (and illegal play that wasn't called resulting in a TD) to beat Auburn and snuck by an LSU team with no head coach (that almost lost to western kentucky the week before) . Bama lost to FSU and looked bad lately.

They are all fluffed up by wins against ranked teams like South Carolina, Tennessee, Mizzou, and Vandy. All of which haven't beaten anyone of significance.

Any argument for an SEC team to be ranked over Miami either negates another SEC team or ND and vice versa.

They need to either livestream the discussions for transparency or have former coaches like Saban, Fisher, etc. with real football "eyes" doing the rankings. ADs are sports management people, not football people.

Rant over...:6fps6:
Miami is coming off a weekend of annihilating a top 25 team, while Bama struggled with awful Auburn. That should do the trick in a world that made sense.

Pate was right about one thing: if the Committee bounces Bama after UGA beats them, the SEC will press the Self-Destruct button and blow everything up.

That's the problem we have.

the Big ten didn't have one until 2011
Big 12 started in 1996
ACC started in 2005
sec longest since 1992
The CCG’s were invented to add a TV game for $$.
The playoffs provide that now.

They will cease to exist within a few years. They will just anoint the team with the best record with tie breakers as CC.

What purpose does replaying Bama-UGA a 2nd time provide?

What purpose does replaying BYU-TT provide?

What purpose does UVA-Duke provide?

In reality, under the current playoff model, you’re just adding a game, to your theoretical best teams to have injuries.

They will if BYU wins. They won't have a choice.

We can discuss this more tomorrow after the rankings come out, but it's essentially a lock that they're going to remain the same as last week:

OU at 8
ND at 9
Bama at 10
BYU at 11
Miami at 12

If Alabama loses in Atlanta AND BYU beats Texas Tech, Bama is out. And Sankey won't be able to do anything about it. The committee doesn't even have to change the rankings, although they certainly would. But even if they left them as above AFTER the conference championship games, BYU is in the playoffs as Big 12 champ. And Texas Tech isn't dropping below Alabama.

Bama is NOT a lock to make the playoffs. They're a big favorite, don't get me wrong. But UGA beating them and BYU beating Texas Tech...Bama is out.

Miami has multiple paths:

Two of these
Bama or BYU or (UVA and JMU) losing

The other potential:
North Texas and Tulane are left out due to the departure of coaches

IMO the path is BYU and Bama both losing. I am a believer a 3 loss Bama does not get in regardless of making the SEC champ game. Its not punishing them, they are literally on the bubble. Its a play in game for both BYU and Bama. I know most will disagree but this is just my opinion.

IMO Vandy deserves to be in too. OU does not. But we know that wont happen

Your first scenario is not in OR scenario, it’s A AND scenario. I don’t think we are going to jump BYU tomorrow night. So that means that BYU has to lose vs TTU and Alabama has to lose versus Georgia. I don’t believe the CFP will let a three loss team in.

I don’t think we will drop Notre Dame

Committee could make it really easy on themselves and do

OU 8
Miami 9
ND 10
Bama 11
BYU 12

or even put Miami and ND above OU, since OU has looked like a steaming pile the last few weeks. This way if BYU or Bama lose their CG they're not getting dropped out, they're already the first two out. It forces them to win to get into the playoff.

FWIW, on FanDuel, Alabama is an underdog to UGA this week, and they are -3000 to make the playoffs.

So, if you want to win $100 on Bama making the playoff, you have to risk $3000.

"Vegas" sure seems to think Bama is in, even with a loss. And I do too. They're not letting a team who is BEHIND Bama going into that game (which Miami will be) jump them for losing a game they earned their way into.

3 loss Bama is in the playoff if Texas Tech beats BYU.

They don't rig the rankings to set up games. They rank how they think the teams fall as of this week. Miami is not going from 12 to 9 and Bama going from 10 to 11 based off the results from last week.

Also ND isn't dropping a spot. This would be cool and makes sense, but it's not on the table for the committee.

JMHO, I think UGA and TT both win, although I think the SECCG could be close, as in OT or a Field Goal.

Can't see Miami moving up to 9 as another poster down thread believes. Too much would have to happen for that to occur.

SMU dropped from 8 to 10 last year after losing the ACC-CG by THREE POINTS.

Alabama is currently 10. What, nobody on the CFP can move them down ONE OR TWO SPOTS for a loss?

Bull****.
Everybody gets stuck on the Michigan A.D. from last year, but the SEC didn’t have a team that was facing a third loss with a horrible loss on their résumé like Bama is this year if Georgia wins what’s the difference between Bama and Texas? And if Texas Tech wins, why does BYU get to stay ahead of Miami?

They're not leaving Alabama out. So hoping for them to lose is not going to help.

We want to be as close as possible to Notre Dame in the rankings so BYU losing and Alabama winning would do that. If Miami is #10 and Notre Dame is #9 I think we get in.
