Need the committee to throw Ole Miss out.
Yeah I suspect they made a call to the committee about what would be "just enough" to be kept in the playoff. It was looking like a possibility…but then Ole Miss promoted Pete Golding to HC. And Pete was Bama’s DC under Saban for a while, so do the math.
Am convinced this is what's gonna happen. Because life is painI want to jump ND, if we get in, to avoid the doomsday scenario of BYU beating Texas Tech, closely, then #9 being the real cutoff for the playoff teams.
TT is much better than SMU last year; though, even if we go to 10 for whatever reason, that’s not a guarantee just yet; however likely.
Yea. But they were clear last season that teams who had locked spots in the playoff at the end of the regular season would not be left out if they lost their championship game while other idle teams not in their title games were left without risk . The debate was Bama over SMU. Now SMU kinda **** the bed against PSU. So maybe that’s the reasoning the committee would use this season to justify a change in philosophy but then it’s Pandora’s box cause why play in a conf title game if it can cost you your playoff spot.they penalized them all last year
Conference Championship game loses as always been a penalty
* 1st year in 12 team, all losers dropped spots
* in 4 team playoffs, it cost teams spots, including previous undefeated UGA a few years ago
* before playoffs it cost teams playing in NC
Now all the sudden the last team on the bubble with 2 loses, 1 God awful loss cant be punished?
SMU was 11-1 not 10-2 with a terrible lossYea. The records aren’t what matters it’s the idea that Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and ND get a pass while Bama could lose a spot by having earned a conf title appearance. The only way the committee can dodge that bullet is if they come out Tuesday night and say Bama will be out if they lose and that they would have put Miami in front of them if they hadn’t made the sec title game. They have to safe guard against this idea that being the second place team in B1G/SEC is bad and that being 3rd is better cause you dodge the conf title game. Thats why it’s way easier to just move us up because that is some real circular logic.SMU was 11-1 not 10-2 with a terrible loss
the bubble outside teams were a 3 loss bama and a Miami team that just lost 2 of 3.
This year is different, there will be atleast 1 team out that everyone agrees deserves in
They will eliminate conference games sooner than later, as pointless as bowl games nowThe records aren’t what matters it’s the idea that Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and ND get a pass while Bama could lose a spot by having earned a conf title appearance. They can’t make the SEC championship game a punishment.I disagree, if Bama was in top 7, I'd say they were safe
being the last team on bubble at #10, makes it easy
a 3-loss team that got dog walked by FSU
if there was no 10-2 Miami, I would also say they were safe like SMU last year, but there is a more than deserving team, either UM or ND potentially left out
it reality Oklahoma is the absolute Joke in
Always has been beforeThey can’t make the SEC championship game a punishment.
I think the best way to do it is that the season should now start with conference play. Run your gauntlet and see where the conference rankings settle except for the rivalry week games. Then you play your OOC. Some teams won’t play anyone and it won’t matter what they do. Other teams will play someone worth a **** and the strength of each league should be made evident. If you don’t play anyone you are at risk for getting jumped. Then have the rivalry week and title games. They will eliminate conference games sooner than later, as pointless as bowl games now
How many spots did SMU drop last year after ACC title game loss?
Cause teams who don’t play in them can’t get dropped out. Oklahoma sucks and if they had to play Bama or UGA again they would lose and be out. Same with Oregon if they were lining up against OSU this week they would be punted as wellI don't understand why so many are convinced that SMU making the playoff last year set some inviolable precedent that CG losers must still make the playoff. SMU got embarrassed by PSU in the playoff.
Why isn't the takeaway that the CFP should have put someone else in (Bama, us, etc)? If you're a fringe playoff team and you lose your CG you should get left out. If you're a fringe playoff team and you choose not to play in your CG cause you don't want to risk losing, you should also be left out for being a *****.
Seems like they have to at least drop Bama one spot for losing so very interested to see if they move them back up one spot over ND on Tuesday to protect them. Same for BYU.They dropped 2 spots. From 8th to 10th.
No. It’s too profitable. They aren’t penalizing a team for participating.Always has been before
Fair point: teams that didn't get in CG but were in the playoff the week before the CGs can't get dropped out.Cause teams who don’t play in them can’t get dropped out. Oklahoma sucks and if they had to play Bama or UGA again they would lose and be out. Same with Oregon if they were lining up against OSU this week they would be punted as well
Just penalized UGA a few years ago out of playoffs. It's always been that wayNo. It’s too profitable. They aren’t penalizing a team for participating.
