And he is correct in saying that.

Unfortunately he doesn't have the OL to implement his strategy righr now.
Agreed. That’s the point though. We have to pass more than run bc we are a team more built for that. I think coaches immediately regretting it post game is an issue bc it’s like they don’t know their roster (ol and running backs). Again, I don’t need 60 passes again. I’m good w a balance but running to run w zero success isn’t smart

I believe Big Manny has communicated it very clearly wirh the audience being the players and staff:

we are going to make this program a power run capable offense.

Players, develop yourself and get on board with it.

Staff, go find me recruits who can do this.

“...We have to get more out of our run game, very disappointed there,” Gattis said. “We kind of lost our identity a little bit about three games in. These last three games we lost, ran the ball well three games ago, lost. We threw the ball way too many times – you don’t build championship teams, win that way throwing 50 plus times..."

Someone should hide the last 3 superbowl stats and teams from Gattis and Mario before they become super confused as to how this is possible LOLOL. These guys literally live in an alternate universe.

Yes, there were certainly some bad moments, but we also won 2 NC's and played for 2 more NC's. DE's weakness was that he was a lazy undisciplined drunk. That is what caught up to him more than anything IMO. He had success everywhere he went though (non-NFL). WSU, Miami, Oregon State, even ASU. He is more of an Urban Meyer type coach will make an immediate impact but because of the lack of true discipline they can't sustain it beyond 5ish years. I'm fine with that type of coach if it means NC's
He Won 2 NCs with 99% of JJs kids...once JJs kids were all but gone in 92...then you saw his Garbage *** recruiting (OL and QBs) I give JJ and certainly Butch, wayyyy more respect than Drunk Boy....they left UM in better shape than Erickson ever did. I give more credit to Sonny Lubick than Erickson.

it did until he opened his mouth post game and showed you he only did it reluctantly. the biggest question is does this continue with VT or do we revert?

The funny thing is, you can envision what a Miami offense needs to be after watching that UNC game. There were 10-15 plays where we needed to hand the ball off to someone and get 4, 5, 6 yards and it just wasn't there. If we did have a better running game that stat line probably looks like:

-370 yards passing
-150 yards rushing
-41 points

My isssue isn’t running it’s bone headed running. We can run more effectively more creatively. We won’t do it just running into a stacked front right down the middle. Longest run we had was 9 yards. We are what we are as a roster and offense

The fact is, we will likely never ever be a consistent winner again.
You have a chinese fire drill on the sidelines now, no chinese guys, just a fire drill and its less obvious unless you pay close attention.

1st and goal...stuffed! WHAT DO WE DO WHAT DO WE DO??? Trust the process...run it again.
2nd and goal...STUFFED!! WHAT DO WE DO WHAT DO WE DO??? TRUST ME, WE'LL GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME!!
3RD and goal...STUFFED!! WHAT DO WE DO WHAT DO WE DO??? They'll never expect the old middle dive, no CWM!!
4th and goal, ...NOW WHAT? can we get Mallory into the flat? no, he's running slow today, how about a jet sweep/ NO that will never work. Incomplete!

Uh, is that all the chances we get?

Didn't the UNC game prove that they're willing to change? Outside of the goal line situation, that was not the same offense they had been trotting out the first 4 weeks.
I Agree. However, it is the same offense at the goaline and that's a problem because we can't execute what he wants to do.

I just don't think you throw away a season just to implement your scheme. You have to use what you inherited. Put your players in the best position to be successful based on their skillset.

We pass block 10x better than we run block. We started out run blocking fairly well and the AtM game gave us confidence that the run blocking had improved. I don't know what happened the last 2 weeks, but there's been a regression. Perhaps injuries have played a role.

It’s a better level than the past nearly 20 years but not enough to match our ambitions for sure. Not the kind of ROI we should expect for $80M+ but….

That’s a helluva ROI. Lol.

-Michigan pre Harbaugh value: $88.2m (2014)
-Michigan post Harbaugh value: $105m (2015)
-Michigan current value: $139m (2022)

-Michigan pre Harbaugh 10 yr stretch:
72-53 (.576 win %)
-Michigan post Harbaugh 8 yr stretch (thus far):
67-24 (.736 win %)

If anyone school has more of a standard than us, it’s Michigan. Yeah we became a microwave dynasty, but Michigan is a blue blood. They’ve been sitting on 11 since 1997, 25 yrs they’ve been waiting to add 12 to the trophy case. So while they haven’t won a 12th, Harbaugh has done the next best thing: flirt w/ 12, increase the brand’s value so they can be in the best position to win 12.

If Mario can flirt w/ 6, while increasing or re-establishing our brand’s recognition, thus increasing our value, I’ll be OK w/ that. Putting us in position to contend, is what we need at this moment. I would love to see ACC titles, NY6 titles in our trophy case at this point.

actually it’s his offense that puts his teams in close games. He did the same thing last year playing close games against Fresno state, Stanford, cal, ucla, and Oregon state. Overall there were 5 one score games and 7 games under 10 pts. 3 blowout wins and 3 blowout losses
Ding , Ding , Ding!! That was while having far superior talent most weeks. Running his type of offense makes winning harder no matter the talent or competition.

Taking to game five to get slapped with reality is just crazy. Then they still kept forcing runs into a loaded box for hundredth time with no success. So they’re still being hardheaded. My fear is he thinks this is only short term , until he loads the roster up and can play caveman ball. My hope is he’s getting slapped with some reality and it breeds new ideas. Seeing the game different. I guess that’s tbd.

Did Mario not interview and offer the OC job to Jason Candle?

Did he think he was going to hire him and have him come here to run a pro-style, run first, methodical, power run game? I just can't imagine that's possible.

(Toledo is 4-2 by the way, and 2-0 in their league. Only losses at Ohio State and a 3 point loss @ San Diego State)

Let's not kid ourselves, Howard was handed an often overlooked Great class from Saban...and I love Howard. I spent a few hrs with his wife Beverly a yr ago. Love them both. But when you take a look at what Saban handed him in 79/80...It sure made things alittle easier during the beginning of his tenure. Look at what Howard, JJ and Erickson were handed...then look at the quagmire Butch was handed, and it puts things into perspective rather quickly.

Howard went 5-6 his first year. Mmmno, not a great class. Great coaching though, cause he went 9-3 the following year, winning the Peach Bowl. 7-4 the following year, then the Orange Bowl.
