Official There Is No Changing Course

So many porsters screaming for scheme and other changes. "But, but, but spread bro, but, but, but throw it bro, modern offense bro!!!"

So many times Big Manny has said, "Nope." He was brought here to bring it and install it, not work with it. He was also given the guaranteed time to do it (or fail trying).

"...And I get it, we’re not at the level from a size and power standpoint where it’s going to always look pretty, but dammit you have to establish a mentality first, keep getting it done in the weight room and develop, keep getting big old dudes that can knock them back, have faith in your guys and know if it doesn’t work that the other side is going to get the ball back for you..."

Lmao @ “we’re not at that level from a size and talent perspective”. This guy is insane!! We have dudes squatting 700 LBs and dudes over 320 pounds and we can’t push guys from MTSU weighing 260 pounds! Because they are stacking the box and he still thinks we should be running through them lmao. He won’t win here.. Big Manny 😂🤣

I always find it strange that Mario is willing to die on the “power scheme” hill yet the championship teams he played on at Miami were the exact opposite.

Yes, this is what makes Mario and his meathead ball mentality super strange. The Miami teams he played on were complete opposite of what he is saying and wanting for Miami. I watched those Erickson offenses up close, and that Oline was NOT dominant lolol DE didn't give a crap about OL play, he just wanted Gino to sling that rock while he was getting punched in the mouth......and he did and we won....a LOT. And Miami took PRIDE in whipping up on the "Big Physical" teams of those days. It's all super weird.

Didn't the UNC game prove that they're willing to change? Outside of the goal line situation, that was not the same offense they had been trotting out the first 4 weeks.
yep.
Would be nice if the entire statement was posted. It's in the thread about mario's appearance on Joe Rose this morning......
He point blank states he knows they have to adjust based on personnel and Gattis is doing that.....

This shouldn’t get an official tag because you took one quote and ignored the very next quote stating how they are changing things to work with what they have. Clear bias narrative here.
Porst less.

Tweaking is not wholesale change.

Until the likes of BYU and Bama came calling. Erickson not caring about OLmen was highly evident against Bama in 93...his scheme played directly into Bama's strength. The CFB world caught up to his Offense philosophy beginning in 1990. How tf did you not have a backup plan vs Bama in 93 is mystifying. They had the best DL in America...with the 2 best DLmen (Curry & Copeland) and we had an absolute garbage OL with a sloth foot QB...smfh

He was talking about a 4th and short situation in fact.
He was messaging, as he has from the beginning, about what his vision of Miami football shall be.

Power run with dominant OL. Stonewall defense with dominant DL.

How you do anything is how you do everything, so I guess he’s a stubborn meathead by his own definition.

edit: after listening to the whole interview, that quote was taken out of context some because he was talking about going for 4th down at the goal line and whether he will continue to be aggressive on 4th
Um...no it wasn't.

If it helps you cope emotionally, I support your recovery journey.

Deserves a few years. Not happy but again if you can’t move somebody off of the ball you will not win regardless of the offense being run.

We run people complain and if we were to pass people would scream why not pound the rock in.

We lack explosive speed at all positions. Other teams may hide things because they take a five yard slant to the house and we don’t have that player. ****, we just hope he catches it and doesn’t trip over shoelaces for a positive gain.

And why are you surprised? We knew this since day 1. Maybe before that.

There's not only one way to win football games, there are quicker and less quick (but maybe more sustainable? I really don't know) ways.

I take the tweaks because it is the opposite of being stubborn (IMHO) and it is the right thing to do to find the balance between coaches' ideas and players' abilities.

Yes, there were certainly some bad moments, but we also won 2 NC's and played for 2 more NC's. DE's weakness was that he was a lazy undisciplined drunk. That is what caught up to him more than anything IMO. He had success everywhere he went though (non-NFL). WSU, Miami, Oregon State, even ASU. He is more of an Urban Meyer type coach will make an immediate impact but because of the lack of true discipline they can't sustain it beyond 5ish years. I'm fine with that type of coach if it means NC's

I'm not the one surprised by this. Several of us said it from beginning, but some porsters struggle with acceptance.

They'll come around.

it did until he opened his mouth post game and showed you he only did it reluctantly. the biggest question is does this continue with VT or do we revert?

Ummm yea it was, the specific question was about whether he would continue to be aggressive by going for it on fourth down and Joe referenced doing it at midfield and at the goal line

I know he still wants his smash mouth football in general but this was about 4th down and short yardage situations

I’ve always known and said he wanted his 80s big ten offense, and said that was his biggest weakness

That’s been one of my bigger worries with Mario. I’m starting to wonder if Mario is the one directing the A gap runs

Yeah good take when he basically started 9-27 first 3 years with FIU which was a horrible program with absolutely no support. Program was 8-35 previous 4 years when he took over and 0-12 in the year before he took over.
He took the job... No one forced him...
