And they are Number 1 seed why? The are fifth highest ranked team in the conference. They are the Duke of the SEC. Can't understand why Pate is dying on this hill. It's obvious Bama isn't very good.

There should be requirements you have to reach to get in the playoffs. If you clinch that you clinch a top 3 spot from a power 4 conference
The next highest ranked team that’s not in the top 3 of their conference can get one of the final 2 playoff spots. And then the highest group of 5 team gets that final spot.
A total of 14 teams
3 acc
3 big ten
3 big 12
3 sec
Top ranked team left
Top ranked group of 5 team

I feel like we’d still be out in this scenario. Then the convoluted tiebreakers come back into play for the conferences.
I really think if you aren’t inside the T15, the AQs shouldn’t happen. Either remove the 5 conference champ requirement or expand it to 16. Somehow, we have a system that is allowing James Madison to get boat races vs Oregon, while Miami, BYU, ND, Bama, Vandy, Texas, etc are sitting at home. That’s not in the best interest in the health of the sport.
