MEGA There’s Still Hope for the ACCCG/CFB Playoffs Mega Merge Thread

Still think people are massively underestimating the chances of us and ND swapping places. The CFP genuinely thought we’d stumble or just kicked the can down the road on a decision. That’s no longer the case.

Putting in a 10-2 over a 10-2 who they lost to sets a precedent the don’t want to set.

The fix is in.

13th in the coaches poll
12th in the AP
13th in the ON3 pod.

The field is being cleared for the following breakdown:

5 from the SEC
3 from the Big Ten
1 from the Big XII
1 from the ACC (the fix will be in for UVA)
1 from the G5
Notre Dame
Unfortunately this was always going to be the case - they’ve been fixing this format to ensure the SEC/BIG/ND take 75% of all spots from the get go.

The Big12 and ACC were sold the pipedream of access when all along they were each only going to get 1 spot.

The sec/big have turned this sport into a cartel - the ACC/big12 take the leftover scraps and it gives legitimacy to the eventual sec/big/nd champion.

The only leverage the ACC/big12 have is to create an alternative tournament to de-legitimize any champion that comes out of this format.

That would happen if:
BYU loses bad
Bama wins the SECCG

Bear mentioned this..that would put ND at 10 and Miami at 11.
Stupid it should come to that
You don’t need to be ranked on top of each other to “compare” them
They already played…we don’t need to compare
Put the team that WON the game in front like they do with every other scenario when two teams have had the same record!!!!

Vegas says differently
Vegas has a hard time accounting for the human element of the committee. I remember 2 years ago FSU was still the heavy favorite to make the CFP over Alabama until like 30-60 minutes before the reveal. The betting public does not account for the fact that the committee isn’t necessarily tied to previous rankings and can do what it wants

Aint nobody going to that game; very few will watch it.

For boot, the SEC Championship is on at the same time.

I'll be at MSG cheering on my Johnnies, couldn't care less about those other teams or games.
Just hop on the Texas Tech train and enjoy the ride👍😊

If Miami can’t get in and win it, it’s who we should root for anyway (besides my son being there)….the upstart program- against the b10, SEC and ND!!!!

Gonna be fun

Let’s highlight how rigged this system is - the ppl that control the cfp will undoubtedly turn the *****/change the narratives to ensure the SEC/BiG/nd get 9/12 spots. Lets see what that means:

Sec + BIG + ND = 35 teams

That means 9/35 = 25.7% chance of making the playoff.

In comparison ACC + BIG12 = 2/34 = 5.88% chance of making the playoff

The opportunity to make the cfp is close to 5X just by being a member of the SEC/Big10/ND. This system of haves and have nots is simply not tenable for the health of this sport.

And that’s not even counting the G5 teams - if you add those the odds get even worse.

The only leverage the ACC/big12 have is to create an alternative tournament to de-legitimize any champion that comes out of this format.
This needs to happen. There is too much parity in college football to allow some archaic model of monopolization to continue. Every school has money and every school has billionaire boosters so this could very well become an alternative. There is no loyalty anymore and the best athletes will go where the $$ is.

This is where Bezos and Amazon could change the landscape of college football…

Posted this in another thread…

Honest question…how can Ole Miss expect to compete in a playoff game if this article is accurate…Lane is taking the entire offense staff. How does that square with what happened to FSU without Travis?

Agreed 100%. This is where we need leadership from the conference commissioners and get the ball rolling on this. It’s not going to be easy and the sec/big will do everything to stop it - but you have to at least push it.

Putting Vandy ahead of Miami in the rankings is f***ing insane.

The quality of their wins, in order:

Missouri 8-4
Tennessee 8-4
LSU 7-5
Kentucky 5-7
Auburn 5-7
USCe 4-8
VT 3-9
Utah State 6-6
Georgia State 1-11
Charleston Southern 5-7

So that's 4 sub .500 P5 teams, 3 cupcakes, 1 score victory over LSU and Missouri, and beating Tennessee. But let's talk about how awesome their losses are.

Yeah, that's just not true.

Although it looks like the fee was lowered for everyone, and not just FSU and Clemson.

Exactly. That's why you don't get it, and should remove yourself from further conversation.

The lawsuit, which involved TWO universities, established a precedent, which the ACC then applied to ALL OF THE UNIVERSITIES IN THE ACC.

Therefore, FSU and Clemson do NOT have a "reduced exit fee" below that of any other university in the ACC. There will be a reduction of the fee in FUTURE YEARS, but the exit fee is currently HIGHER than it was pre-lawsuit, due to the combination of the exit fee and GOR fee.

As per usual, I was correct and my statements were true.

As per usual, you are a wind-bag who has no idea what he's talking about.

Your wording shell game was cute, but nobody ever said anyone was leaving next year, or even the year after. Everyone knows that 2030-31 is the target season because that is when the SEC and Big 10 will be renegotiating their media rights deals, with the CFB Playoff negotiating it's rights shortly thereafter. The exit fee will also be down to only $75 million at that time.

Pay attention, here's the most important part: any team leaving the ACC retains their media rights under the settlement, as long as they pay the exit fee. There's even a nifty little "limited exit" option, where schools can leave for a single sport while remaining in the ACC for all other sports. Under that option, the exit fee immediately drops to $75 million. You don't even have to wait until 2030.

And no, the exit cost is not more than before the lawsuit. It's the same as it was before, $165 million, ...dropping around $18 million per year until bottoming out at $75 million. There is no additional GOR fee, just a single exit fee.

There are people out there who kind of dismiss the h2h claiming ND almost won that game and given it was a road game, the h2h win isn’t as valued as we think it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the committee has that mentality. I don’t get the sense the commute values that h2h win as much as they should. We whipped that team that night.

Frustrating that the score didn’t reflect that

I'm with it. If we're out, I'm rooting for your son.
