The Work 2-17

What happens when we go .500 this season?

Sure didn't take long for the trolls to come out.

Because I have lost total confidence in the staff? It was an honest question. If we do not have a great year I wonder what all these top recruits will think? It is easy to be confident a year before signing day but we saw how the end of the season impacted us this year.

Call me crazy, but I'd take a QB/CB package deal of QB Brandon Wimbush and CB Minkah Fitzpatrick over QB Torrance Gibson and CB Tavarrus McFadden. Both packages include a 5 star CB and a 4 star dual threat QB, but IMO Brandon Wimbush is a much better passer and more of a "pass first QB" than Torrance Gibson.

Oh, and I can already sense that both McFadden and Gibson are gonna diva like South FL 5 stars do.

Both have already said they are waiting till NSD or past, which is extremely rare for a QB, and to be honest since we are only taking 1 QB in this class I def don't want to be holding my breath all the way up till NSD waiting for our QB, and I doubt we will.

We have been doing a good job in NJ, and IMO it would go a long way in landing Wimbush and Fitzpatrick if they could see AQM and Kiy Hester have break out years this season for us which IMO is very possible for a freshman Safety (Deon Bush, Ray Ray as a Fr etc...) and a sophomore rush end.

In my humble opinion, I would prefer T.Gibson under center over wimbush. Morris' style left a bad taste in my mouth. Based solely on the videos online (since I haven't had the fortune of watching a full game from Wimbush), it seems he is better positioned for long balls and 15 yards+ beam throws then a touch pass. Same as Morris. Nothing wrong with having arm strength, but I prefer a Qb with touch and catchable balls with a little less arm strength, personal preference.

I agree though on the unfortunate route of "south florida diva-ness" or immaturity in this process, which is not the trend for qb's. With that in mind, it's possibly the staff may take a commitment early and call it a day.

Regarding the RB spot, I have become enamored with Dexter Williams from Orlando. To me, a more rounded version of dalvin cook. Not really impressed at the RB spot with Jordan Cronkite at all.

There are divas everywhere, not just in south Florida.

Seems like Joe Mixon told every school he was considering he was going to choose them before he popped for OU. Wasn't it reported that Jamal Adams told UiF he wold sign with them only to announce for LSU at the All American game? Happens all the time and it often comes with the high profile players.

Nobody likes the drama, but sometimes you have to play the game. For a talent like Gibson, it's worth playing that game.

Winbush and Gibson have great highlight tapes and it'd be great to get either, but Gibson has more upside, IMO. It would probably help with other players in the area as well.

I hope AG sticks by his philosophy: don't fly over local talent to go get similar talent oos.

Sorry but Golden ain't waiting till NSD for his QB commit. (so if Gibson really is waiting he def won't be in this class IMO)

Wimbush will make an early commitment, and I would take him over Gibson and def take Fitzpatrick over McFadden.

Miami and O$U are in the top 5 for both of these QBs who don't want another QB in their same class, and an early commitment from Wimbush would ensure THAT school does not get Gibson, since he will be waiting.

I would much rather have a pass first QB than a run first QB(Wimbush), and I would def rather have a QB who commits to us early like most QBs(other than Terrell Pryor).

Oh and we have pretty much no shot at McFadden but a very solid shot at Fitzpatrick who is IMO way better, but just isn't listed as 6'3 195.

Lets hope Wimbush and Fitzpatrick leave their unofficial visit this week with a great feeling about Miami.

Gibson isn't coming, and honestly I don't think he is a pro style passer. Auburn or OSU would probably allow him to excel in the spread option type offense. He may be great their in those systems similar to Tebow but just not a pro style QB.

We also have Olsen and Kayya so hopefully we will be set at QB for a few years anyways.

Wimbush is a better passer than Gibson(which is way more important to our offense than a better running QB) and Minkah Fitzpatrick is way better than Tavarrus McFadden, but isn't listed at the "freak" size of 6'3 195 for a CB.

So they would be going to NJ to pick up better than what is available in FL IMO(flying over lesser local talent to get better talent that fits our schemes).

Lol Gibson's defiantly better and to think you can't mold a 18 year old qb into a player within our system with more athleticism is crazy isn't that what our coaches are paid for to get the best talent and develop.

Pete: Is it me, or are we (1) offering more kids and/or (2) offering kids earlier than in years past? What is your take on this? Is Golden starting to better understand recruiting in South Florida?

You can lol all you want but the facts are that Wimbush is a better QB and Gibson is a better athlete.

Gibson will def play for a team like O$U or Auburn that will utilize his athleticism in a spread option, he is only keeping us in his top 5 for now out of respect for the home team and the fact that we have been after him for a long time now, but in the end, he will make a "business decision" and that will be to play for a team that runs a scheme that he will excel in, which IMO is a spread option or something very similar.

We have literally no shot at landing Gibson, so lets not get our hopes too high.

And like I said earlier, you really think we are going to wait till NSD for our only QB commitment?

**** no.

I would be beyond stoked to get an early commitment from 4 star QB Brandon Wimbush, it would lock in our only QB this class and give us the inside track to land 5 star CB Minkah Fitzpatrick who IMO is light years better than McFadden(who our coaches didn't even offer after they saw him at a camp but finally did b/c of all the b!tching of all the locals about not offering this "5 star" in our backyard).

And even though we need to continue to recruit South FL hard, I'm def tired of this entitled diva attitude of the top recruits down here, and wouldn't mind showing a few of them that we can find better players outta state if they want to play games.

Not gonna lie, it is kinda crazy to think we have a better chance to land a 4/5 star package from NJ(Wimbush and Fitzpatrick) than land a 4/5 star package(Gibson and McFadden) from right down the street, but for some reason I do.

Pete, late in last cycle you had a piece that talked about local schools and kids not being warm to the U for a variety of reasons.

You get any sense that might be changing? Perhaps a change in attitude by UM coaches and/or the fact that UM had a strong 2014 class helped? I
