Rumor The Weather...I'm Shook...SO SHOOOOOOOOK

When a cashier or employee look at you crazy because you dont speak spanish is the ultimate mind bender when people come to miami

Dirty little secret is that many of these folks broken English and Spanish. I guess one can say Broken BiLingual.

It’s maddening to a lot of the long time resident old people who aren’t Hispanic, though they’re dying off. I grew up with it so I’m used to it and all like you I assume. For my non-English speaking Dominican wife, visiting the area, I don’t even stay where I’m from on Miami Beach, I stay in the Doral area for her. Here in California, English is spoken first. For her it’s a good change as a visitor.

A relative is at an ALF in far west Kendall. She was born and raised in Cuba but she's conversant in English. I would say 98 percent of residents are Hispanics, with majority of them being Cuban, but there are usually 2-3 Americans and one Asian and they always have the "how tf did i end up here" look. Lol.

Thankfully, many of my Mom's generation in ALF lived up north after they left Cuba, so they had to learn English and American culture to survive. She is comfortable watching English speaking shows and she knows football thanks to her son's dragging her all over soFla ball fields. But these folks coming now don't have incentive or initiative to learn the language and many only appreciate some of the material culture.
