Over the last 11 years the champion has been in the top 13 in yards per play 9 times. The only two Champs that didn't were Bama and Clemson. That year Clemson ran 83 plays per game. The year Bama won they ran 75 which was nothing abnormal but up from their historical 66 plays per game.
Now you may wonder how man times have the Canes done this in the last 12 years? Once under Golden.
The most troubling thing is this. The Canes have only finished in the top 25 in plays per game once. It was 2020 under Manny and the reason was King. But sadly top was horrible at 106th.
In fact the Canes plays per game have been around worse than 100 other teams on average per year since 2011. Time of possession tells the other side of the story which is worse. We've never finished better than 51st.
Now you can play bully ball and still win a championship. See Georgia in 2021 but this was predicated on big plays as their yards per play were 4th nationally.
Tl;Dr we don't get big plays and we don't control the game from the offensive side of the ball.
Here is hoping Mario can fix both. I know he can fix the later....
