The UNC game is going to be tougher than they appeared pre-season

They really looked a lot more together and inspired than I thought they would. They've got a really good frosh QB, a surprisingly stingy D and enough playmakers to score. Until today, I truly thought this game was going to be a blowout for us, but playing at their stadium, and playing the physical brand of football that they showed today, I really think this is going to be a hard fought game.

I've gone from my 30 point Cane blowout prediction to: Canes 30 vs UNC 23

Let's just get the W by hook or by crook and use the following month of non-conference games to get ready for the ACC gambit. This season's schedule is already feeling like it'll be more difficult and competitive than it did on paper during the offseason.

Thoughts?

I don't get thinking we'd blow them out, even pre-season. Outside of last year, where they had no QB, they've always played us tough. And we've always struggled on the road there.

They looked about what I expected. Howell is better than the garbage they had at QB last year, and their new DC is good, but I'm not sure why anyone would have thoughts otherwise. They have the 2nd most talented roster in the Coastal.

Still, South Carolina is a bad football team. They've now lost 3 in a row to ACC teams by a combined 108-55. UNC was almost asking South Carolina to put that game away in the 2nd half and instead they imploded.

We should beat UNC. But predicting a 30 point win in a road conference game was always unrealistic. The spread even coming into today was 7.

What a reaction. They were playing the gamecocks. Take your meds

We're coming a off an in-state rivalry loss in a game we could have easily won and they're coming off a win in a game they could have easily lost...

I think we'll be the hungrier and more talented team. The rest is coaching and we'll just have to see how that plays out, but I like our chances a lot from here on out.

In 2018 S Carolina's defense was ranked:

95th in avg sacks per game
104th(!) in allowed qb completion at 62%
57th in QB rating (Miami #1 btw)
113th in takeaways per game
54th in allowed passing yards per attempt
99th in allowed rushing yards per game
74th in ppg

In summary- their defense sucked last year and nothing to suggest an improvement over the past few months. People who are impressed by the UNC win really are slurping the SEC- USCe was not a good team.

By comparison Florida's 2018 was better in EVERY defensive category (I'm too lazy to retype it all exactly).

57th avg sacks per game
38th qb rating
49th rush yards allowed per game
43rd completion percentage allowed
35th in allowed pass yards per game
24th in ppg.

It should not be a close game. Miami should win by at least 2 TDs.

This needs to be a statement game for Miami. If Miami wants to take the next step... we cannot afford to get caught up in how any weak *** coastal team looks in another matchup..... not saying underestemate them... just continue to play "physical" Miami football.

Watching that game I saw more of USCe trying to lose it more than UNC beating them. Muschamp is a terrible coach and it showed today. Miami has at least twice the talent of UNC. If they show up ready to play and not sleep walking they’ll be fine.

If we play a close game with UNC we are in for a long season. Gotta make a statement like Bama did Duke
