Decades now us Canes fans have seen that depths of sorrow rooting for ours team to return to prominence.
The same prominence that had CFB in a blender for the better part of two decades with brash and trash talk backed by the unbelievable athleticism and the highest order of passion on the college gridiron.
We all know the names that make up all the stories. Coach after coach, roster after roster, we watched in bitter anguish as our fandom was put to the test as team after team for various reasons could not get it done.
The fanbase was now in angst the last two seasons as Mario seemed to finally get us home only to have hopes dashed last year by defensive play that rivaled only that of Onofrio's read & react of the golden era.
This season, UL & SMU losses dampened hopes once more but somehow, someway we arrived in the dance.
Any doubts this team had placed on it would be put to the test and that test was passed (probably though with a C+ average) against A&M.
Now we are at the moment. The team that robbed the Canes of it's legacy and march through the 2000s that has buried the program sense. Ken Dorsey and the Canes ruling & operating at the peak of their powers from 2000-2002 only to be taken out by a bad flag and bad game that gave a snapshot into the the future which would showcase many failures on the big stage.
But NOW: Canes get the Buckeyes. Fresh off a title, with probably the universally two best heralded players on both sides of the ball in Jeremiah Smith & Caleb Downs.
The Canes fandom (at least for me), am now satisfied with the staff and direction. But that small piece wants more.
How sweet to return, and do it by taking out their #4 with our own homegrown #4 and finish It all off at HOME in the rock.
It'll likely take a fantastic effort but for the rest time in a long time, the U has a true chance of being back and it's by halting the Buckeyes in the same underdog manner as they stopped the Canes.
