aside from the very obvious want/need to leave the ACC to protect the program from the bull**** politicking currently going on (of which we historically have gotten ****ed by) --
why the h3ll doesn't the AD and co. resign from the ACC and go Independent?
(from what I understand that would cost $165 million this year and decreasing to under $100mm within the next 4 years)
this program historically has always set the trends: the original bad boys of college football, inner city kids being supported and accepted by a community at-large, the first all-sport deal with an athletic brand, the celebrations from players, the bravado, and on and on
How do you make the economics of going Independent work in today's day and age?
If the school/AD had any motion (as the kids say), they should sell their own packages of TV games - some to broadcast networks, some to cable, some to streamers - and get AHEAD of the curve given that the linear TV business is dying / undergoing a huge transformation (that's a matter of POV)
USCw just had talks with Netflix a matter of months ago to try and leverage their brand and also as a warning shot to the B1G
make your own schedule
help determine your own fate
make the games for your fans and those of rivals far more interesting year in, year out
make more money
help protect yourself from Committee retards who either don't watch the games and/or don't respect Miami
take a package of let's say 4 games: local (or any) FCS school, UCF or FAU or USF, FSU, and UFag - and sell it to broadcast networks so you maintain your built-in audience for locals and/or olds who don't know how to work a cable remote except for channel Up / Down
keep an annual rivalry with ND and open up bidding to streamers/networks - and alternate broadcast rights each year. one year they can host it on their NBC broadcasts, the other year you have a deal with ESPN/Amazon/Netflix
sign a series with another big brand / willing partner and go sell the broadcast rights - it can be USC (who's clearly signaled they are willing) or Michigan or Oregon. whomever. you can rotate opponents and cut these deals in 4/5 year windows. figure it out and you have more incoming media rights income AND another big game on your schedule
sign various SEC series - SCar (they just canceled on us), Auburn is coming in the future, OU or Texas
pick rivals from previous era:
Nebraska
Virginia Tech
maybe Penn State every so often
and then 2-3 filler games from either ACC or Big-12 (ACC makes more sense because of recent history with most opponents)
the program will get FAR more respect from the ****** poll voters and committee people for having more “big” games on your schedule
you go ND style and win 10 games? there’sno (less) politics each year and you probably go to CFP each time you win at least 10
so if you have more USCs, Nebraskas, Auburns, Michigans, OUs on your schedule ... whether or not those teams are ANY good in a given year, you can lose and get more “respect” from these people.
whereas you lose to any ACC opponent in any fashion (twice this year on the last play of the game), you get completely ****ed by the gaggle of morons
(eventually after ACC buy out costs recouped) more money, more respect. very simple equation
yes probably more work to do for all other sports in the equation, but if you're serious about being a serious footballl school, you employ this strategy
will be bringing this up with a friend of mine on the school's BOT - and Radakovich I'll even work with you for a Spanish salary since i live over here. or for free for that matter.
