App fan talking about their national championships. Hahaha. I live in north carolina. Born and raised. App is everyones plan C school. National championships........

Thats like crowning the fastest ******.

It's a state school. Put a little money into recruiting and the weight room, get a little lucky. Win the conference a few times, and Voila! You're Boise State!

They'd just have to beat a D-1 school in a New Year's Day Bowl game.

Unfortunatley, with their luck, they'll catch Alabama in an off year and catch Darth when he's ****ed off.

The problem is they are in the south, and a lot of big time football, even from schools like Duke, is played in the south. Boise was able to pick those west coast recruits that turned out to be 4 star level talent because nobody wanted to go to San Diego State or Fresno once Boise got a little success. I'm not sure those recruits will want to go to App. State, even if it makes some bowl games, because of Kentucky and NC State and Duke and company. Unless their coach is just a really good salesman.

The program is different from those schools in that it really is a family atmosphere. The facilities are top notch, maybe slightly smaller, but they fit a niche. People who go to App have to accept that it isn't going to be like living in a city however it isn't necessarily cut off from the rest of the world as most Miami fans seem to think.

Also, most of App's starters are actually from Georgia. A lot of recruiting is done against the South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Alabama schools.

The best App could ever hope for is a low rent version of VaTech. Pull off the occasional upset, with the major difference being that their conference schedule sucks balls. Like vatech, the trophy case will be perpetually empty.

Except Virginia Tech owned the ACC when that move occurred unlike Miami.

We need to beat the tar out of these ********. I'm really tired of these teams believing they can hang with us.

I'll tell you this much. If Rick takes a far more talented team and loses to an FCS team then he's going to take a long time to get this program turned around. It's really that simple. Miami needs a game like this to show the world things are finally changing here. Lose, and it's simply more of the same old ****.

You don't lose to a team of 2 stars at Miami with a team loaded with NFL talent and a top veteran QB. This isn't a "sneak up on you" game because everyone's pumping App Store to beat us. So there's no excuse to go in there flat or to lose to a completely undermanned FCS team unless our coaching staff gets worked by theirs.

I said in the offseason that this game would tell us a lot about this staff. 90% sure you mocked that idea saying app sucked

This is a game that FHEG 100% loses.

Behind State and UNC. That isn't bad company to be in from an academic stand point. I couldn't go to App because they didn't have the program I was looking for and neither did UNC. State may have it but I didn't have any interest in living in Raleigh so I chose ECU. I also shunned a view private school opportunities because I wasn't interested in majoring what they were offering a scholarship for.

Everyone has their reasons and like Raleigh wasn't for me, the mountains aren't for a lot of other people.

Not really sure I or most other people appreciate the use of the term ****** in the way you are using it either. A National Championship is a National Championship and when you are interested in actually breaking down the basics of why App is getting some looks from the National Media for this game, i'll be here.

Dont appreciate that term...... haha wow youre soft shouldered.

Apps national championshipa are against schools like montana and Delaware. Bahahahahaha.

App has beat one good school in their history. Fact

I'm not sure that matters much? It might matter when the choices is App. State or Georgia Southern. But you aren't winning the recruiting battle when the choice is play in the SEC or ACC, be on tv every week, or go feel maybe a little more like a family and never been seen by anybody except that family.
And yeah, everybody in the south recruits Georgia. It's the breadbasket for much of the southern schools. My point was that Boise State was able to go into the breadbasket of the west, and start winning over 3 star recruits. They weren't beating out USC or UCLA, as you won't be beating out South Carolina or Florida or Georgia. They beat out San Diego State and Fresno State and schools like that. But they only reason why they were able to do that is because those schools were/are so bad, that Boise was able to say, "Hey, if you want to play meaningful football, we are the most west coast chance you are going to get." App. State can't make that same argument in the south, so it's going to make it difficult to build up a Boise State style of program. There are just too many meaningful programs in the south, unlike the west coast. Especially back then when Boise State made it's run to relevancy, when if it wasn't USC, who cared?

Yeah, Va Tech feasted on a bad ACC. But it's not a relevant program on a national level, and never will be. It's best bet is to feast on a bad Big East, a bad ACC, go a January bowl game and get destroyed by a legit team. That was and is the ceiling of Va Tech, and not that the ACC has turned around, it can't even reach that ceiling.

Funny that espn calling for the upset is giving CMR his own coaching office fodder. He's gotta be ****ed that his skills are being called out, even if he gets the need for manufactured drama.

Barring a complete catastrophe (e.g. a plethora of injuries to key players), if we lose to them, I will immediately call for CMR's ouster. If they play us closely, I will cast a suspicious eye in CMR's direction. I expect us to flagellate them.

Crossover you know I got your back but I have to correct that statement.

Michigan was highly overrated and finished the year with 4 losses, ill deserving of that #5 ranking so correction ** app has never beaten a good team, they did however beat an average team becuase it was opening weekend and Lloyd carr couldn't get kids to focus with Oregon the next week

They shouldn't be on the same field as us from a talent standpoint. We should rub them out. Nothing's changed.

But if Rick blows this game, then he'll blow all the goodwill and momentum. For that reason, it's a monster game. You can lose to a UNC or FSU or ND this season and still keep things rolling. Lose to an FCS team, with the fragile state this program is in and its fanbase is in, and you're in harm's way.

App State would have to REALLY butch up its OOC schedule to duplicate what Boise State did. BS was able to tell recruits that they would get noticed. The only way Appy State can can tell recruits that they'll get noticed if they get marquee victories and play decent opponents outside their conference.

Agreed. We hired him to win the games we should win, and get to the point where EVERY game is winnable. We can not lose to App State and believe the future is bright. This is a game we should go out and win practically every man on man battle, and walk away from them. If we don't do that, it's a major coaching failure. These were the games where past coaches would coach our kids down to their level, and if Richt is going to succeed here he can not do that.

Exactly. That's why I think Richt's approach to this game is, in all likelihood, the exact opposite of what you saw from the clown show that Golden had before the Cinncinnati game last year.

I think that Richt understood this was a trap game.

Cincinnati actually recruits decent athletes. App Store isn't in their league from a recruiting standpoint. We need to let our athletes do what they do. Get in some dopey phone booth fight with these guys, and that's what they want.

Do whatever it takes to let your monster athletic advantage bear fruit for you. I think Diaz has that covered defensively. Rick needs to get his offensive athletes in space and let them win one on one battles. That doesn't mean throwing the ball every down, but it does mean not lining up primarily in an I-formation and trying to play in a phone booth.

We should go out and beat the brakes off these hoes

Can't decide if we'll come out gunning it to blow it open early at the risk of Bard shytting his pants or just run early and often to ware them down

I don't think we need to get greedy early on, either. RPO will constantly wear them down in the first half. We COULD put 28 points on the board in the first half if we play our first half with the run/tight end/option pass combination and just chew up time in the first half while taking time off the clock. Let Diaz and Kul do their thing: the Big Plays will come on Defense as App State starts doing stupid ****.

Hasn't Richt been working on a modified spread?

Agreed, you blow this one and you lose any momentum/goodwill you've built up.
Beat the crap out of this team...like you should.
