Gives me hope with the D.

I've been hard on Diaz and the D ( rightfully so). But I really liked what I saw in the second half. More db's in the wr's face ( especially in the slot). Manning up and letting the DL eat.

The issues with the first two games seems to be Diaz just didn't trust the db's. Because the second half looked nothing like the first 2 1/2 games. Lining the db up over the slot took the only offense Duke had.

Even better Delaney got to play more to his strengths and it looked like he was way more comfortable. Young was his normal reliable self , got beat once but held up really well. He does need to learn to get his head around and play the ball. Or the pi's will ecevtuakly rain down.

The real shocker was Dean , dude looked really good for his first real burn. Look very fluid and natural. I was really impressed how he got pushed but still got back in to knock the pass down in the end zone.

Lastly on the d was the tackling , it resembled last year , plenty of guys made 1on 1 tackles in space , especially 22. There could've been been a few huge plays if he missed any of those .

Defense grade is B+, first half pulled the grade down. Nice effort

Now the offense.

Richts play book has zero creativity or imagination. No motions , simple route combinations and needs to implement more shorter routes. Short slants and drags were there from the early second on. We finally made them pay on the Richards td. Multiple posters ( including myself) were calling for that. Duke wa blitzing leaving the shallow routes open then would bail out when in zone. Showing no respect for the quick throw.

Honestly he seems streaky as a play caller. Hot and cold.

Richards makes a huge difference , you must respect him. BB impressed again. I just wish a third wr would step up to help those two.

Walton was not right majority of the day , and should've been sat in the third qt. He didn't even try to out run a dl in the open field on one run, just cut back rather than turn on the gas. He knew he wasn't right.

It was obvious to everyone he was hurt.

Lastly on the O, we started out hot (per usual),then looked god awful for the next two qt's ( per usual ).

Offense grade D. Inconsistent , and awful for majority of the game.

Offense easily a B. 400 yards and 31 points against the 11th ranked d on the road. **** .good

We badly need the TEs coming in. Richt doesn't mix up the calls as much as he should. He needs to use Herndon way more as well as slants. Duke was determined to not allow the run to beat them. I'm sorry but against good teams I don't like our shotgun side ways run game. I don't feel that's our strength. I know it's RPO but it puts us in long yardage alot. We need to use a ace or I and have Irvin at FB. Happy for the victory. Duke beat 3 power 5 teams and Baylor gave OU all they could handle. D getting better.

Richts offenses has been jeckyll and Hyde . Every game we look great for periods and awful for periods. I can only think of Pitt last year where the O really exploded. The rest is hot n cold .

Diaz really has been great the past two years with his second half adjustments. Shut Duke out this year and if I remember correctly only gave up 1 garbage time TD against Duke last year after giving up a few scores and a lot of yards in the first half

School 7 - Could not get push up front on short distance gains from the offensive line. School 7 also passed the ball for 3 straight drives back to back to back before finally using the best RB in the ACC. The QB of School 7 played solid but can be inconsistent at times but is a dangerous runner. School 7 run defense is a little bit suspect but they should get better as players get into football shape. No. 99 of School 7 is unstoppable in his pass rush. There was a I formation and drag route sighting from School 7 but was only used twice the entire game. Also School 7 struggles in goal line offense.

It's a hard team to watch, as you never know what you get. Like one eye open, one closed and cringing.

Inconsistency is our biggest issue on offense. We show flashes of greatness, then go quiet for entire quarters at a time. It needs to be fixed ASAP or we won't beat FSU.

the offense obviously goes through these prolonged funks but we still averaged 6.7 yards per play, which is a good number. richt is a frustrating play caller for sure but we have a lot of individual talent right now that is just making plays. there are worse things.

Definitely happy with the D's overall results...but a little bothered that we seemed to dial a LB or safety blitz almost every down in the 2nd half... In some cases it left slot receivers uncovered. Love the aggressive play calling, but it almost feels like we can get really exposed against a better Qb.

Oh well - loved seeing the guys not give up any points those last few minutes and play hard till the end.No quit in this team

Defense was great, offense not so much. If Richt can figure things out and get us one more quarter of good offensive playcalling we could be nasty.

On point! Great observations.
