It’s like Miss St. 4-0 ranked 16th.
Compare to VT 4-0 v Pitt 4-0 last night. Heard a comment during that game something like the first time in x years, or maybe ever, that two 4-0 teams from a power conference faced off but neither ranked.
So Pitt doesn’t get a “ranked win” for beating VT. Moreover, that carries forward so that when Miami (or other ACC teams) beat Pitt and VT those are just lame opponents and the Ws are discounted heavily.
Meanwhile Bama will beat #16 and get a ranked win. That win is already worth more than Miami beating both Pitt and VT. What’s more, I’m guessing Miss St will remain ranked at 4-1 with their “good loss” at almighty Bama. So the next SEC team who beats them gets yet another ranked win.
Miss St will provide at least two big wins for other SEC teams and get credit for a good loss. So they’ll hang around the Top 25 until they’re absolutely forced out by losing more than other comparable teams. That’s a single team doing a lot of work to prop up a conference.
Meanwhile they’ll keep saying Miami plays nobody.
