0-0 with just over 2 minutes to play in the 1st half against lowly Syracuse. Body language was bad, we seemed lifeless on TV. Granted, this drive had some more juice but the previous 4 were brutal (all punts and we had under 100 yards of offense prior.)

It was so antithetical to what we had been doing all year. It was like the weight of the world was lifted, everyone seemed all smiles after and since then been on a roll. I’m hoping that this was a learning experience for Mario/staff for next season and they keep it rolling.

Not that this matters, because you can’t lose 2 games in a league that lets Duke get to its championship, but that “let it rip” thing got absolutely ridiculed here, and they actually did exactly that after SMU. The offense was a lot more creative. This season is solely on the shoulders of Dawson and Mario. Inexcusable to be that predictable and boring on offense for the first 8 games. You have plenty of talent. Get weird with it. Don’t run duo into the A gap 26 consecutive times in short yardage.

If Dawson is back next year, I really hope him and the rest of the staff have come to Jesus moments in the off-season where they realize they should play to blow everyone out. Style points only matter when you need them…if we were 11-1 we’d be in the top 5 and wouldn’t need any style points, but when you play like you do, you’re more free and fun and open. Do that from the first snap next year.

I hope that they had that moment already. If they dont see the difference since we let it rip, we’re doomed.

I’d be curious how Dawson would speak to the significant changes to the scheme/playcalls/personnel he made after SMU.

Would he admit he should have made those changes earlier in the year?
Would he say they weren’t significant changes, and the shift was in “better execution”?
After 2 straight 10-win seasons without a playoff appearance, what are the lessons he will take forward next year?

Would pay a lot of money to have a few beers with him completely off the record.

To say the season hits a pivotal point on a play in the 9th game of the season is kind of dismissive.

This was a great season in all phases....except 1...and even that phase wasnt tooooo bad, but it was. This was a great team, and season hampered by game management.

I’m saying that stretch from UL to start of SU was a total downward spiral. Sure we beat Stanford but it was 7-7 at half and we finally just overpowered a bad bad team the second half.

The start of the SU game was putrid and going the same way. Call it that drive vs that specific play then. Moore Upshaw and Toney all contributed that drive. In the previous 4 drives we punted 4 times. Ran 24 plays for 73 yards. Beck was sacked twice and had a ball picked but called back to penalty. It was Deja vu all over. After that TD there were smiles and excitement, the ensuing pick 6 really got us running downhill.

it just feel in that moment there was some actual joy and it seemed to resonate across the sideline from what I saw on TV. Since then we’ve been doing much more on O. Using diff sets, running elsewhere than the A gap, motions, etc.

It got ridiculed by the “8-4” crowd who have mysteriously disappeared.

Confessed mope for a long time. Had us splitting last 4 at best.

So happy to be wrong. So happy.

Whether we get into cfpo is irrelevant to me at this point. Crootin gonna be fine, portal too.

I take whatever this year wraps as, bc we may still have future with this strong finish.

Just win whatever bowl game we get BIGLY to say FTW.

GONNA ENOY THE CHAOS MEANWHILE

Ya it's weird because if miami got lucky and pulled one out against smu they probably don't have this come to jesus moment and potentially lose to nc state and/or pitt. Seems like that loss was needed for us to find our best football but it might doom us for our long term goals this season.

Announcers last words said it “that’s the spark the offense needed” and Toney threw that off his back foot, lol, so OP, you’re are correct!!!
