the schedule sets up for success

Yet we still find a way to do more than half the time over the past 2 decades.

11 times in the last 20 seasons we've won less than 8 games.

5 times we won less than 7.

Lots of corches.

Simple solution. Lower the expectations…

Ghost, my goals/objectives for this season are simple:

- win every game you're supposed (any game we are a signficant favorite, take care of bidness -- as they say in Texas)

- play better at Hard Rock. I mean, last year after So Miss, that was pathetic how they played at home (FSU, Duke, Pitt)

- and actually compete vs the Clemson's of the world (like say, go over 100-yards of offense vs the Tigers)

That to me, will be a sign of progress. It may not assuage some, but I'll accept it

I will add to this:

By "every game you're supposed to"....there are 7 of them. Ohio's Miami, Bethune, Temple, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Louisville, Boston College. Those must be 7-0. It's Year 2, you're much more talented than all those teams (I will hear arguments of Louisville being a tougher game than the rest, but it is at home). This has to be 7-0.

You only have to go 2-3 against the other 5 teams to win 9 games this year. A&M, UNC, NC State, Clemson, FSU. Have to win AT LEAST 1 of those. 0 would be a disaster. One would be disappointing. Two would be solid. Three would be great. Four would be a dream. Five and there's no chance I'll be able to put on pants until March or April.

So this is all I'm really looking for. Win those 7 "easier" games. Be competitive in the other 5, and win absolute minimum one of them, hopefully two. That would be 9-3 with no terrible losses, no blowouts, and would show clear progress.

We know for a fact we will lose a game we should win. We do it every year. What will be telling us if we pull off a surprise win. Fspoo, tamu and Clemson being the options. Unc, ncs and loserville are going to be tough games but we should win.

Is TAMU really considered a surprise win at this point? Gattis garbage *** offense had us in a road dog fight with them last year

Miami earned their Swagger by playing "anyone, anywhere, anytime". You get better by playing a strong schedule at any level of football.

The canes did that and upped their game. Now the fanbase dissects the schedule to come up with those 8 wins against average or below competition and the team, which can no longer rely on South Florida talent anymore, seldom obliges and seems content to play down to the competition.

I would imagine based off last year they will be favorites to win so outside of some miami fans it would be a surprise.

Solid perspective - but **** we canes fans have lost most all of our optimism, hoping cristobal can rebuild this team‘s mindset to not reflect the majority of our fans.

Definitely fair. I see 9 as the ceiling, but think 7 or 8 is more likely with my money on 8. We lose to Clemson and FSU (closer than last year, but that is not saying much), probably aTm (yeah, they sucked but also should be much improved with a new OC, QB and some of their recruiting classes growing up) and then drop 1 or 2 between UNC, UL and NC State
Ok, I am expecting 1 more win now...
