the schedule sets up for success

I know after last season we shouldn't count on anything, but...

Beat Texas A@M on Sept 9, that could mean a 5-0 start before they had to UNC, and then Clemson at Hard Rock..

But again, Im not counting on anything...
Honestly even a 4-1 start would give us some momentum. Maybe even ranked going into ACC play. After that it's a crap shoot.

Ghost, my goals/objectives for this season are simple:

- win every game you're supposed (any game we are a signficant favorite, take care of bidness -- as they say in Texas)

- play better at Hard Rock. I mean, last year after So Miss, that was pathetic how they played at home (FSU, Duke, Pitt)

- and actually compete vs the Clemson's of the world (like say, go over 100-yards of offense vs the Tigers)

That to me, will be a sign of progress. It may not assuage some, but I'll accept it

Man I feel that but I'm still not there yet given the abomination of last year. Really the question becomes, after losing to MTSU and getting embarrassed by every team with a pulse, what games are we even supposed to win this year??

I see 6 wins, 7 if we improve the way we hope, 8 if we get some significant bounces our way (health at key positions, turnover battles won, etc.)

Yup… would he huge mid season moment… can keep the spirit alive and recruiting juiced up.

I am not expecting this team to be a world beater, but after all of the changes to the team you only see one more win?

Plus win at least one game we shouldn’t..

Clarification. Sight-unseen going only off what we saw last year I see 6 wins. If what we expect to happens happens (Dawson is the goods, freshmen compete early, etc) I see 7-8 wins. Right now I have 8 as our ceiling.

would love a surprise win to bump us to 9

Definitely fair. I see 9 as the ceiling, but think 7 or 8 is more likely with my money on 8. We lose to Clemson and FSU (closer than last year, but that is not saying much), probably aTm (yeah, they sucked but also should be much improved with a new OC, QB and some of their recruiting classes growing up) and then drop 1 or 2 between UNC, UL and NC State

Sad.

Our schedule is pretty weak and has been for years. It's rare that when our schedule doesn't make me laugh. If everything goes according to plan we'll play 2 teams that finish the year ranked. Our future schedule isn't any better.

As a fan I'm tired of losing. I'm more tired of losing to a bunch of nobody's constantly.

Beat any of the SEC opponents we've faced early in the season in the last decade (LSU, Gators, Tx A&M) and we're off and running. But saying it and actually having a staff/team that can keep us in the game and finish is another thing.

One big reoccurring problem with a front loaded weak schedule, with an SEC team sandwiched in. After being exposed, it hasn't bode well for the Canes against the cupcakes and teams we should beat.

Taking A&M, Noles and Clemson out of the equation… the remaining 9 we’d be favored heavily. Hasn’t stopped us from complete meltdowns before but not winning 8 of those 9 would be borderline incompetence.

And another consecutive loss to UNC might send me over the edge.

Even at 8-4 with losses against A&M, Noles, Clemson and UNC I’d be unhappy. We have to… need to beat a team with a pulse this year.

We won 5 games and played the absolute worst football ever in UM history (or since the late 70s). Also, understand that winning is a habit and it takes time. Kids need to throw out the door the ideas of 7 wins this or 8 wins that etc. Try your very best to go 1-0 each week and let’s see where we’re at late November.

The only time our team has “beat the teams we’re supposed to beat” has been during Richt Era 10 win season. Outside of that we’ve averaged between 6 and 7 wins since like 2004…..that stuff doesn’t just change overnight.

8 wins is my odometer for “substantial improvement” but I’m a fan(atic)….your last few points will be critical and outside of health, the guys locking in week to week and being where they’re feet are, will allow them to not beat themselves and finally force teams to beat us.

Between scheme, injuries, and a shaky transition, last year went about as poorly as it could have gone. The silver linings since 2022’s abortion — complete roster turnover, infusion of talent at OL and DE, and the addition of starter / 2-deep underclassmen in every position group except QB and DT.

On offense, fully expect more drive sustaining 1-2 yard pushes up front, productive short yardage passing game w/ big play potential, and more time to throw for a balanced attack and shots down the field. Tempo, ball control, and some big play ability will frustrate the teams we should beat, keep us close to the teams that have thumped us of late, and give our D a chance to make some stops, flip the field, or get TOs. On defense, barring injuries to LBs early in the season, I think we’ll get gashed a lot less and (hopefully), a scheme that masks some of our personnel gaps.

8 wins if we see progress, 9 with a bowl win if freshmen emerge at end of the season.

9 wins if we start the season looking crisp and freshmen playmakers breakout earlier rather than later AND a bounce or two in our favor. 10 wins with a bowl win if the Gods favor us.
