The Reason Miami is @ Toledo

As best we figured, it was the product of O’Brien’s relationship with Kirby Hocutt, the Miami AD at the time the home-and-home series was announced in 2010. The two men previously worked together at Kansas State and as colleagues in the MAC. Maybe Hocutt — who was the Ohio AD from 2005-08 — was tossing his old friend and league a bone.

Problem is, Hocutt has since moved on to Texas Tech. Ask him what he was thinking, and he said he doesn’t know. The memory issues bug appears to be going around.

“I think very highly of Mike O’Brien and [current Miami AD] Blake James,” Hocutt wrote in an email. “Enjoy the matchup, but I honestly don’t feel like I am able to recall the facts of the situation enough to help you.”

How Toledo Unbelievably got Miami to Visit the Glass Bowl

I’m not defending Kirby by any means, but at that time, maybe, we were just looking for an OOC schedule like that if FSU: weak. At that point in time, maybe we just needed a W. And maybe homie threw us a bone as well.

Unless I totally just missed a point. Someone fill me in -___-

Idk. @App St was pretty sweet. Everyone thought they'd beat us cause they played Tenn close then we crushed their soul from the 1st offensive snap.

I agree though that there's no reason for us to play these games, other than previous ADs not wanting to pay teams to come here. Seems like we're done with these G5 road games after 2019 though

was Hocutt friends with the App St, and Ark St AD's also? Good Lord! We also play at Temple in 2023, is that dude his friend too? Is it possible to be any worse as an AD than he was?

bush league ****ery party of 2. bush league ****ery party of 2. your table is ready.

I don't think that adage is supposed to apply to ****** teams haha. It's better suited for playing the top teams, and not caring how good they are.

I actually like these games. It exposes us to a recruiting area we otherwise would never see. Also, other teams are afraid of losing games like this, and evidently so are our fans. I like it.

Hocutt is garbage. He may be one of the worst ADs to work at power five universities (sadly plural).

App State was a great trip.

This is just a way of scheduling road games without risking getting a team on the schedule that just happens to be top 10 or top 25 when the games rolls around. At that point in time I'm sure Hocutt had instruction from the president that we're not planning on being competitive and not to go schedule any P5 teams unless you want to get embarrassed on the road. Trying to pad some wins.
