The read option

Did you guys watch Memphis and Houston last night??? Those teams would throttle us! Read option, read option qb keeper, read option pa pass, read option wr option, jet sweeps, etc. There are so many things you can do with a read option offense. There are also so many things that can be done with a pro style offense. We just have no creativity. We never bunch our receivers and run them together off one another to get guys open.
Nope. We basically run the same 5 plays all game long. How many times did our genius OC call the deep ball to Coley yesterday despite the fact that Kaaya wasn't hitting it and it was well defended? Then of course we have the WR screens and stretch run plays. So come to think of it, we may actually have just 3 plays in our play book.

even if we dont change from a pro style I've always wanted to see miami have a dual threat, once a defense gets to a miami QB its over we never see our qb extending plays or avoiding a sack and scrambling for a first down, that type of stuff demoralizes a defense, our guys are just sitting ducks, even stephen morris who ran the fastest 40 yard dash at the combine among qb's refused to run.

We run zero read option, the qb isn't keeping it. The only version we run is BK will pull it and throw a flat pass. No defense end in the world believes Kayaa will keep the ball.

As for teams running it to make up for talent, Urban Meyer is one of the og's of the zone read , it's a staple of his offense . Last time I checked he has talent.

It had nothing to do with talent or lack thereof , it's common sense football . It takes the DE/ olb out of the run game . If he comes down too hard the qb pulls it out.

Btw, Alabama ran it a bunch last year .

Our fanbase continues to live in the past. Pro style, 4-3 defense and Miami guys on the staff.

Our fanbase is the balding 45 year old, still wearing his letterman jacket, talking about all his td's and ***** he got in HS.

It's ok to actually out scheme people, the days if lining up in pro form are dead , move on.

I always like to reference him when people refer to the spread offense as a "gimmick" cause it doesn't win big games.

Meyer is the one spread coach that's had access to legit talent and he's won 3 National Championships. It's not a gimmick, it's a great offense. It helps inferior players succeed and if you actually get superior players it wins big games.

The people who knock spread offense or the zone read have never had to scheme against or prepare for it.They have no clue what a pain in the *** they are.

Just imagine 4-5 stars all over those rosters instead of 2-3 stars.

Why can't we find an oc who can run it? All the elite offenses other than whack a bama run it. We need to update our offense. Pocket passing is great but it just isn't the best offense now a days.

I know kaaya can't run it so.....

You mean the whack *** Bama that plays for the National Championship seemingly every single season?

They ran it all last year , because they had a dual threat qb. That's what real coaches do, fit their scheme to the players.

As for Alabama. They play for national titles every year because they've had the number 1 class **** near a decade straight. Then mix in all time great coach . It's not because of the scheme they run on offense .

They just have way better players and coaching every week. How many schools have that luxury?

Are there still idiots who think the spread is a "gimmick"? If we hire an offensive innovator like Herman who is able to land elite SFL talent - we would score 40+ points a game and reap havoc on the CFB world.

I love when people mention Alabama as successful teams who run the Pro Style...

As if Miami gets the same players as Bama year in and year out.

Maybe it's just me but I'm not seeing 220-240 pound RB's and massive corn-fed O-linemen on every corner in South FLA. However, what I do see on every corner are explosive receivers, quick-twitch running backs and dual threat QB's.

Every offense puts kids in the NFL. talent gets you there.

I always LOL @ that statement.

Like our offense was the reason Andre Johnson and Clinton Portis went to the NFL.

Even the NFL has moved towards the spread offense. So WTF exactly is a "pro style" offense these days?

That's been the point I've been making for a few years . What's a pro style offense ? I know what it used to be.

I'd be willing to bet every nfl team uses just as much spread or more than " pro ".

The guys calling a spread gimmicky must not watch much cfb or pro ball

Everything that is old is new again. Lot of different ways to win. I dont think one scheme is the magic bullet for Miami. But then again I am over 45 and remember when teams ran this stuff the last go around.

Opposing staffs must literally spend the first 30 minutes of their team meeting pre-Canes week laughing at our film. We're so simple on O that you know what's coming. We're so complex on D that, ironically, we're **** easy to game plan against.

Yeah Bama are like we used to be.

It must be disheartening for teams to play them close for a half / 3 Quarters only for Bama to roll more 5 star killers off the bench.

I'm 37, so I'm not too far behind ya.

People who use " gimmick" no nothing about these schemes or the principles. They're the offensive equivent of gumbo.

They use principles from Air coryell, west coast offense , Lavelle Edwards , single wing, wishbone and veer. At the end of the day it's the same old football, just using different formations , bigger splits by ol and tempo.

The wishbone qb has been reading de's for a 100 years, is that gimmick? Single wing has been around forever, is that gimmick ? But the zone read is? Gotcha.

Why would you knock an offense that uses every advantage there is , and makes defending harder?

I remember it differently. He scrambled a lot - that is until he gimped around on a bad ankle for almost an entire season.
