It’s the elite liberal world I’m talking about.

They’re the ones who will never see Miami as anything more than a neat little vacation town full of lower-class foreigners, high crime, and too much cocaine.

The well to-do in places like Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Vermont wouldn’t associate themselves with UM in that way.

I’ve attended both UM and Yale. They are complete opposites.

True, that’s how they think. But they’re trying to emulate something they can never be.

And their academic rankings have been falling, by the way.

Honestly....as smart as the people on the board are, they make some foolish decisions with respect to how they manage UM.

The best image Miami can have is to be a winner.

And instead of trying to copy other universities, they should differentiate. Develop a brand.

Academically, they should specialize in something. What is UM elite at? Nothing, really. It’s just average at everything. They should pick one area that fits with the vision of what the school wants to be, pour a lot if resources in to developing it, and develop a reputation for it.

not exactly what i said or i meant. Ivy League schools treat football as an amusement, to be entertaining, but not get
rabid or fanatic about it like Clemson or Bama for example. championship football programs are expensive and they would
rather invest in something else. so that brings us to where we agree. "they don't give a s-hit about football"

Dude i'm in disbelief as to how this program has been destroyed... the damage may take a long time to fix... if at all.

My friend, it will take at least 4 yrs after PRicht is gone. So that’s when we can start counting. PRicht has been the best recruiting tool for Alabama. I’ve never witnessed kids flipping and going to them in droves like this! Saban doesn’t even get on the plane, don’t make the call, they are calling him to get with a real football team!

We thought Folden was the worst recruiting tool for us, but we have been greatly mistaken, PRicht got him beat by a mile!

Simply we have a AD incapable of exerting his will. And a coach paid and tied to a contract that gives him way too much power A totally embarrassing recruiting class. A team scarily not meeting expectations. And a diminishing fan base that has taken the last 3 years to build. This is Virginia and Clemson losses which meant instant firing. Mr. President save our program.

There's an old line in sports that may explain the president's inaction: "We've got 'em right where we want 'em."

@mdpcane and @RightSaidFred you both have valid points imo. I disagree that we are not elite at anything. In medicine we are very respected, and other areas also. Shalala sacrificed football to help bolster the U otherwise. But it's correct that we can never attain Ivy School status in non-sports areas, and this is where Fred is right, because Miami suffers from an image problem because of the "third world" issue. It's a fact and it's reality. My friends I can give you countless examples of how corporate got impacted by the demographics of Miami... but of course other businesses have flourished like tourism and being a trading hub to Latin America.
