The posts blaming Mario and Dawson suck….

This wasn’t on Dawson play calling or Mario being conservative. The offense was good and Beck was great.

As great as our defense and heatherman are, today was more about the defense. And a lot of that probably has to do with blay, Scott, Thomas, oj etc being out.
Mario and Dawson were aggressive and trying to put up points. If our fate wasn’t riding on the point differential, we’d be talking about how good of a win it was, how good Dawson and Beck were and how great our backups played on defense with key starters out. Your takes suck
This--this x 1,000!!!

It’s not about the “efficiency” of the offense. It’s the mentality they have that limits opportunities. When you have a sizable advantage you want as many chances as you can get. VT is a 3 win, bad team. But instead of playing with urgency like we want to beat the brakes off them we get into a slow paced slug fest with a seriously inferior team.

I’ll give you an example. Late in the first half we were winning by 10 or maybe 13. VT had the ball and they were driving to make it a 1 score game going into half. A game that we had dominated up to that point. Why would it be a 1 score game if they were able to convert? Because we only had 4 possessions in the entire 1st half. Again, VT is a bad team yet they were one bad play away from trailing at the half by 6 and getting the ball in the second half. That’s how we lose to the GTs, SMUs, and LVilles of the world. Decent teams but teams we should beat easily.

the pace that they play with is by design. So yes that is on Mario and the staff.
The actual problem--besides the refs who aided and abetted VT--was that we couldn't get off the field on defense.

We had a 7 minute TOP advantage. We had 8 possessions in close to 34 minutes of offensive play. Our pace is slow and stagnant. Case in point, we were rolling in the first quarter and actually playing with some purpose . Got the ball back before the end of the 1st and started driving. We ran a play, ball is set with about 25-26 seconds left in the first quarter. We couldn’t get a play off in that time. Came out of the break and went on a slow 14 play 75 yard drive that took 9 minutes. Playing slow and down to your competition catches up to you eventually.

I understand, but we would have a much greater TOP advantage if the defense was better at getting off the field this game. I'm not blaming the defense since we were decimated by injuries, but it's a point worth considering.

A 7 minute advantage is pretty dominant. You want more plays/possessions, not necessarily more time. The really good offenses are relentless. They go fast, knowing that their talent advantage is going to win out over time. You keep the pressure on and lesser teams can’t keep up. Instead we limit our chances and have to play perfect. Again, against a 3 win team it’s no issue because the talent advantage is that great. Do it against a LVille or SMU and you increase your chances of losing.

Correct
We saw
That
Movie twice already it is a huge strategic flaw that meathead has not figured out yet

So fit people with skinny wives and good jobs come to different conclusions about why we can’t shut down a 3-8 teams even though our entire season depends on it?

Miami isn’t missing the playoffs because we beat VT 34-17/not bad enough today. Yall are weird.

If the teams ahead of us lose, we’re in. If they don’t, we’re not. We aren’t jumping OU, ND, or Bama if they win even if we won 63-10 today. Stop being weirdos.

It's Beck more than Dawson IMO. He's a deliberate QB. That's how he's always played.

This game was weird too since VTech wasn't really trying to win the game, just keep the score as close as they could - they had 15 pass attempts at one point in the 4th quarter when they were down 17 points.

Offense was fine today. Wish we could have gotten one more TD and one less FG in the first half, and we got too cute horizontally on the second drive we punted on in the second half. We probably force fed Pringle a bit too much, when we could have given Brown more carries. Fine with it though cause he needs reps. But all that is pretty nitpicky.

We didn't win 50-6 because we couldn't stop the run and the refs. could've been worse if you turn FGS into TDs and bauman isn't a bum.

Scott played well at times, but we missed blay inside. Bain set the edge poorly at times.

Bissainthe and toure didn't have great games.

Day doesn't have the physicality of Scott.

Jacoby going down hurt more as the game went on. Playing a team like that today isn't fitzgeralds strong suit. Poyser tried his best.

I'll take the win anyway. VT played hard today on the back of Franklin News and the alt unis. Stadium was full and pumping for 1 qtr and died off lol. I enjoyed my time there, but left with 7'to go in the fourth. Had a long drive home.

If we did all those same great things just with a little more tempo and urgency it would have generated a more decisive victory.

Style points matter whether they should or not.
