This Miami team has been through years of being soft mentally and not learning how to win. Teams we should be, we haven't been beating like the Duke's Unc. Physical mistakes are going to happen but its the mental ones that is keeping this team from moving forward all the time.

The funny thing is that we have always had problems with these Midwest type teams (and BC). The ones who build a wall on the line of scrimmage with them big corn fed country plow pushers. I’m sure our line was surprised when the got hit with that first punch and couldn’t get around that footwork. Of course being held consistently and taking cheap shots in the pile with no calls can affect your psyche too if you’re not ready for war.
They really focus on lineman’s technique and chemistry even from youth ball and it shows. We need some of those gritty maulers too.
 
Not sure what you guys are confused about. You've seen the game busting errors that have prevented us from being 4-0. They were preventable. Winning teams don't do this. JT dropping a punt is not on Manny. Baxa missing a chip shot is not on Manny. This is the team he inherited. JT catches that punt in practice and Bubbba probably makes that. But Manny is right, if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot, including his own bone headed calls, and we're an ugly 4-0.

Mario said after th auburn loss. If a kid missed a kick, I have to coach up his kicking. If a kid drops a pass, I have to coach up his coaching. If a kid makes a penalty , i have to coach up his discipline. It’s on the coaches.
 
Of course, learning how to win is just as real as building a winning culture. But when a cesspool message board is 99% “coaches suck”, the rational fans who understand sports are going to get shouted down.

Except that he doesn’t really believe it. If coaches could fix players at will, the best coaches would never have a penalty or turnover in their games. It’s just coach speak, and it Manny said it, he would get shredded.

So you have to have played the game of football at the HS in order to understand x’s and O’s...believe it or not there are players who play football because they can..meaning they don’t have great football minds, but have the physical ability to play the sport at a high level. Same as Basketball..but having a sharp football mind doesn’t mean you need to have played the game..meaning after years of coaching and being around the game you can learn the in and outs, techniques, different schemes and develop a way to relay and teach..I’ve never believed playing the game automatically qualifies you to be able coach. A coach first and foremost is a Teacher and good communicator..y’all reaching and holding on to crazy ****
 
“Learning how to win” is just more political double talk. It’s the type of nebulous verbiage that hucksters resort to when they have no real solutions. They dupe imbeciles with that verbiage.

Winning teams make winning plays..JT finds a way to come down with that catch to put u up 2 scores..JT doesn’t muff that punt..the FS doesn’t blow a assignment and allow UF to flip the field right after the missed FG..Baxa makes that 49 yarder at end vs UNC. The oline doesn’t allow a blocked extra point..bandy doesn’t get caught freelancing on 4th and 17 losing track of his man and the sticks..in the two losses winning plays were out there to be made and those winning plays were squandered by the players in adverse situations..winning culture figures out how to win in different adversity..your totally on point

i think football is different from basketball because of the physicality.

But it’s still X’s and O’s at the end of the day. At its highest level it’s the little things that count...you’d be surprised how many guys who can play football or basketball on a physical talent level, but can’t because the mental work that goes into playing at the highest level holds them back..coaching is the same. You have to be sharp. Even if you played the game you have to be able to communicate, compartmentalize, and teach..that’s why when ppl say “oh he can’t be a *** or head coach because he never played” I scoff at it.

No, it's not.

It was a phrase used by Don Shula during his greatest years.

Maybe his career didn't end up on top, but I remember a period of time when he was the greatest coach in the game.

I'll defer to his judgment, rather than a sad sack poster who has such a life of unaccomplishment that he can accumulate 19K posts on an obscure college football board. People who accomplishment great things don't waste their lives posting and posting here so they can post 19 thousand times (or any board).
