The people who think the D did a good job are delusional

you are aware their QB was a first time starter, and their best WR and Rb were out, right? THere was nothing impresisibe abou this D. they couldn't get a stop at any crucial times, like last year. they couldn't get stops on third down, like last year. they are playing soft zone coverages, like last year.

whaat's even more ssad is as bad as the defense was, the offensive was even worse. it was hands down the worst playcalling i've seen on a football team.

Qb was 20/28 with a few drops.

Rb had 130 yards

They were missing Parker and Dwyer.

Petrino was playing conservative all game. I think the playbook will open up for that young man as the season goes on.

Only the second series of the game did the defense look ******. Dorito may suck. I'm not here to argue otherwise. But his unit was solid last night. Our OL and OC on the other hand were pathetic.

They had one score in their first seven offensive drives, right?

thats because the wr and qb timing was off nothing to do with the D. We still stunk up the field and the bad part about it the O cord might be worse than Dorito

The talent is better/deeper but it's the same ol same ol.

- no pass rush from fromt three. When we rush 3, we rush 3 slow DTs. Very little speed.
- not aggressive
- best rush guys are asked to play soft coverage 20 yards down field

Btw, Louisville plays a 3-4 also and it's their first year installing a completely new defense while having to replace many losses to the nfl

lville's qb was begging to be attacked more, but Dorito only did it a few times. Look what a marginally better DC did against us. He stacked the lined until we prove we could throw. He did the obvious but Dorito can't even get that right.

Defense only reasonably positive thing from game. Far from perfect, but well enough to win with a reasonably competent O line, play caller and QB.

The D was better, not enough to overcome inept O playcalling. Left too many points on the field.

I am not a Dorito fan, but this loss wasnt on the defense, it was on offense and special teams.

Defense played well enough to win. Gave the offense the ball twice in the red zone also.

There was no excuse for not being more aggressive. We have the players now both in the front 7 and in the secondary to be more disrupted on defense but we saw no change whatsoever from how we've done things in the past. It's not even how we played last night that disturbs me, it's seeing that we there was no difference at all in our philosophy, no apparent desire at all to be more aggressive than we had in the past.

It's frustrating watching Louisville, with their newly installed 3-4, aggressively crowding the line of scrimmage pre snap and then creatively bringing pressure and disguising their coverages. You see little to none of that from us. We show very little movement pre snap on defense, db's still give an absurd amount of cushion to opposing wrs (even in short yardage situations), LB's and safeties still lining up 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage in short yardage situations, only rushing 3 DL in too many 3rd down situations. We have the players now to be more aggressive - the coaches themselves have said we do. There is no excuse for this garbage anymore.

Just wait. When we play a good offense this defense will get destroyed. We're slightly better due to a talent upgrade, but the same issues remain.

They gave up 7 points in the half, 14 through three quarters and they were on the field all night. .. we're not going any where if coley sees 8 or 9 in the box and chooses to run it up the gut anyways.

The D was at the game watching their offensive brethren offer zero hope whatsoever. It wears on you mentally, especially when they give the offense the ball inside the 10....Twice.

The D gave the O opportunities, when the O couldn't create any for themselves. The Offense is not well prepared, coached and schematically weak on every level.

Defense might still suck, but they gave the offense the ball at the 8 yard line twice, and they came away with 3 f'ing points. It's a much different game if Louisville is forced to come from behind. The futility of our offense allowed THEIR offense to stay calm and run their basic plan.

I agree. The offense lost us this game. However, this thread is about the defense so I'm being honest in saying that the lack of aggression exhibited last night on Defense is still concerning as **** to me. With so many high powered offenses in CFB nowadays I just have a very hard time believing that our approach on defense is a recipe for sustained success..
