The past ten years doesn't matter

Are you a flat earther? Do you understand what MSU was before Saban? I am sure you're aware of the probation? Do you know how bad LSU was before Saban? How about Clemson?
how bout Miami? You can make excuses for Saban/other schools but no excuses for Miami? No idea what flat earther means...if its compare apples to apples then yes.

Nobody is making excuses. You compared Richt to 2 of the best coaches in the game. Coaches who won it all.

Your examples sucked. Take a few minutes and look why before you post.

Not saying we would have ever had that luxury, but taking 13 years off after what really should have been 3 straight championships...as a small private school, well...

I went over to a Clemson site today looking at the DT that might be interested in Miami...the top two stories?

1. Venables reaches the $2 million club as all Clemson assistants get raises...

2. Clemson recruiting budget has tripled since 2010.

Says it all right there.

^^ That's amazing. But we will NEVER be able to match Clemson's public resources, nor most other public institutions for that matter. Our alumni base is a fraction of most other public institutions. We have lots of "fans" nationally but most of them rarely contribute $$. So any expectation that we will EVER be able to match the growth of these public institutions without the aid of some billionaire alum or fan opening his purse strings is not realistic.

IMO CMR is taking the best possible course, starting early recruiting HS underclassmen, and inundating them with the Miami aura early and often. Its paying off with our quick starts in recruiting this year and for 2019. It takes time to build a pipeline but we're on our way. We'll NEVER get ALL of the BEST of South Florida because this is the nation's most heavily recruited area. But as long as we get our share plus we'll be relevant national contenders.

Fans can best help by giving $$$ to the football program otherwise talk is cheap

Really? Some people here think we should count a game we didn't play as a win. So...

And, sorry I didn't flag it as obvious sarcasm.

Right. You just equate saying we should have finished 11-1 since a Hurricane cancelled a very winnable game to claiming wins that weren’t scheduled.

You're also talking about 2001 (Carroll) and 2007 (Saban). The parity and competition in college football today has changed greatly over the past decade.

Also, 10-3 and winning the Coastal in 2017 wasn't much different than 9-4 in 2016—outside of a few games going the wrong way versus right. Could've easily lost games to the likes of Georgia Tech, Syracuse, North Carolina, etc. this year and had a 7-3 regular season.

Coastal wasn't anything special this year and 2018 has Miami going to Blacksburg, which oft decides the division.

No, coaching the past ten year doesn't excuse present day—but comparing what Carroll did 16 years ago and what Saban did 11 years ago doesn't hold water today, either.

Fact is, recruiting and depth aren't there yet—and when Miami is still losing guys like Norton and McIntosh early (while Clemson is keeping better talent like Wilkins and others), the culture is still off. Winning breeds success and the Canes are on a better track than they've even in years passed, but it's going to take another class or two to get this thing to get to the next level.

As for Richt, again, not Saban or Carroll level—as mentioned. Great man, solid coach but has never gotten over the hump. We'll see if he can reel in enough talent to make a run during what time he has left at Miami, but until the Canes have some elite talent top to bottom again, the rebuild continues.

Our Regular season in 2017 was 10-1. In 2016 it was 8-4. To state those are basically the same is just dumb, even for someone as consistently negative as yourself

That was the point...when your facing the natural resource deficit as a small private school, you cant afford to take more then a decade off once you get back to the mountain top.

UM

I agree 100% we can't provide what they provide and we have to play the game differently.

I would have googled what "flat earther" means before posting you dont know what it means...... you dint help yourself on that one

According to PS2 and TC the previous 10 years do matter becuase they felt it would be easier to win at the schools they choose based on their recent history.

It’s going to be a long offseason.
