Anyone ever see one of these? Honestly, I had never even heard of it before, much less seen it.

Yeah, I did see this recently. There are actually one or two other videos of 1 point safeties in major college football in the last decade or so. Look around on YouTube.

What I want to see is a "quick kick." I used to see them in games, including UM games, in the late 50's and maybe even early '60's.

I also remember seeing a lot of guys play both ways at UM--this was in the early 60's. We had fullbacks who were also LBs, guards and centers were also often LBs. WR's also played DB.

I also remember seeing teams punt on third downs in the late '50's, early '60's. I guess teams were very conservative back then.

I guess teams have done third down punts and quick kicks more recently. Here's Tom Brady:

Third down punts were a staple of the defense dominbated SEC of the 50s. And, yeah, quick kicks were fairly common.

The substitution rules back in that day were a mess. There was no unlimited substitution, and many guys played both ways. But limited substitution caused even some offense only guys to play defense for a play or 2 until they could be subbed out. I remember George Mira getting stuck of defense a couple of times. It was a mess.

It's weird that this thread would pop up now, I randomly watched that video just the other day. Maybe it somehow came to the top of the heap for people that view college football videos often.

It's an interesting play and I had no idea that rule existed. Another one is the free kick field goal rule but I can't remember exactly the specifics of it, or if it is an NFL-only rule.

Never seen a 1 point safety before. Didn't even know they existed. I have seen a quick kick before. Not sure if it was with the Gators or South Carolina but Spurrier was so ****ed at his offense that he just had the QB punt it on third down.

Spurrier was known to quick kick when he was QB at UF.

Was a forward "lateral" in the endzone. Does that change the call?
