the official we shoulda never fired Coker, Shannon Golden thread...

Since we’re doin this, I have to say, you have the program theory wrong and Coker misunderstood.

This program is not some machine that runs as long as you oil it. That’s precisely the misthinking that gave us Coker, Shannon, Golden and Richt. The theory that says as long as you don’t ***** it up, it will naturally rise.

I would have thought by now fans would understand that the program has only been good when architected by elite coaches. Coker won with 19 first round picks assembled by Butch. If you think that will happen again, you’re delusional. And for all the griping about Butch as a game day coach, he was probably the best talent evaluator ever, assembled the goat cfb roster, assembled a legit staff, and even his Cleveland stint should be viewed in context of how poorly the franchise has looked since then. Erickson was a schematic innovator, 2x NFL head coach, 2x national champion with Jimmy’s guys, and even he ouldn’t ‘keep the machine running.’

We need someone who can ‘build it’, not someone to pour in oil now and then.
When I say machine I'm referring to the early 2000's run specifically, not the program as a whole. Coker had a blueprint to follow and didn't.

As an offensive coordinator, Coker is far better and much smarter than Richt. Anyone remember that game in the Coker era where we came out with an unbalanced line? It may have been against Pittsburgh but I'm not sure. Anyway, that move caught the opposing hc completely off guard and it worked very well. My point is that Richt would be completely unable to ever think outside the box like that.

Lol oh like how Coker had no clue how to use the talent on his team... like how he completely wasted Devin Hester’s UM career. “Far better”

At Miami.

That's all I give a **** about.

Thats all I was talking about as well. Larry Coker deserved one more year after that 7-6 season to try to turn things around but Shannon looking like a coaching genius compared to Richt? are you serious?? Google is ur friend.

I think Shannon was the worst of the crew, but I have Golden and Coker ahead of Richt. Golden was such and idiot not firing Donofrio. Had he done that in year 2 or 3 he might still be here. His defenses killed him. Did everything else decent enough to hang around. Coker and Shannon could not develop talent. Richt is a lot like Golden, does everything well enough but is making incredibly poor decisions with the staff. Had he hired a top OC and addressed the line and STs, we would be playing Clemson.

Lol When people on this board say that Golden was better than Richt 🤣😂 and then make excuses like the only reason why he didn’t win was bc he wouldn’t fire Dnoforio?? Proof that this board was full of the largest group of Al Golden slurpers on the internet...

blown out 41-3 to Notre Dame

Blown out 52-13 to Kansas State (0-2)

Lost to Maryland

2 out of 5 against UVa including a 30-13 blowout loss.

0-5 against FSU including a 41-14 blowout loss.

42-24 blowout loss against VT at home.

48-30 loss to Duke

36-9 loss to Louisville in a bowl followed by another 31-13 blow out loss to Louisville the first game the following season.

All that Golden dxk slurping this board was doing until year 5 you must’ve slept through reality lol 🤦‍♂️ The offense and defense was trash under Golden, the program was dead under Golden so gtfoh 🤡

You are not getting the point. There is no such thing as a blue print to follow that will make the program rise or stay elite. It needs a talented staff, talented leader, good to great player evals, and in this era, great S&C. Coker was just awful at evals, probably the worst of everyone we’ve had. That alone meant he was gling to take the program down each year that went on. He was an awful leader, ran a country club, had no motivational ability, and no guts. He tolerated Kehoe and Swasey, so he didn’t see what everyone else saw. He was not going to succeed, because he was not a top Hc, and there ain’t any blueprint in the world that could change that. Even Erickson couldn’t maintain the program and he was 1000x the coach that Coker was.

Your ‘blueprint’ theory is the same as the ‘oil can’ theory. I disagree with the premise. There is no blue print.

If Richt had Deven Hester,, would have repeatedly suspended him for violation of 'team rules'..

I get your point. The coaches we've had such as Howard, Jimmy, and Butch are guys that did everything your mentioning. There is a blueprint to building a great program. Every coach has a plan, the great ones can implement it at the highest level and sustain it as well. These guys all had it down pat.

Yes, Coker was horrible and yes, Dennis was a much better coach. What both have in common is the program lost control of its self under their watch, thus exposing both as to what they are. The point I'm trying to make is unlike Dennis with Jimmy, Coker saw what Butch did first hand in how to build/run a program and didn't keep at it, much to his own doing.

Every coach that has succeeded here had a plan, blueprint, whatever you want to call it. I agree, it starts with the right guy at the top. Any elite program out there has to have that, as well as great staffs and great player scouting and development. That is the basic blueprint for building a program.

I bet if Coker was given the rest of his contract, he would have won a second national title.

You are an idiot. Golden was horrible, and Richt is worse. The fact that you do not understand the difference between 2018 and 2013 show you are an abject ******. My apologies to anyone who considers themselves a ******.
