The Official Eat Crow and Thank Manny Diaz Thread

Manny is what we should seek in UMiami coordinators: imperfect resumes for guys who are risers and err on the side of aggression. The theory would be these guys use elite athletes to put up great numbers in a crap conference and division, make the players look great, themselves (as coaches) look better than what they probably are, and leap after putting up elite numbers. Rinse and repeat. How we cannot somehow pull this off with the obvious advantages we have is an entire case study on poor leadership and talent acquisition (hiring).
You hit it on the head! What you just described is exactly how I see the situation. Beautifully articulated! You're right. How we haven't been able to succeed with the above formula is beyond me and is in fact a case study in incompetence. Terrible leadership and bad hiring have been the status quo for far too long!

Shutting down a mediocre Pitt and VT team doesn't warrant anything.

I'll remember this defense as a defense that folded when we needed them the most.
After UVa this defense folded. Some will say "it because of the offense".. Alabama defense, Clemson's defense, LSU's defense, UGa's defense could be in our situation (especially with this schedule) and they would have pulled through. Matter of fact, LSU's offense is ranked 90th in total offense (we're 93rd) with a QB comparable to Rosier statically and yet they are 9-2 in a better conference.

Let's not overrate Manny.

You're being unreasonable which is your right. We will just have to agree to disagree. I'm not talking about the past 2 games. I was referring to the season as a whole and I think Diaz performed admirably.

Honestly one of the worst takes on this whole god **** site. None of those programs were anything close to what we were defensively at the end of Golden's tenure ; None of them had to make the transformation from that to what we have now.

Manny adapted to cover the few weaknesses we had on defense.a lot people on here wish cmr would've done the same on offense.ill say it again with the weapons we had and knowing how the oline was.cmr should've last yr went to the spread and stay with until the oline gets to where it can do the power game as well.

Or there are coaches who come off successful coaching trees who are looking for their first real opportunity. Bill Bedenbaugh at Oklahoma is one of the best OL coaches, is the co-offensive coordinator from the Mike Leach tree, but learned a more run oriented Air Raid from Lincoln Riley. Bedenbaugh wants to be a full time OC and call plays. He makes 600k per year. Bedenbaugh could replace Searles, help with recruitment of big midwest kids, and run an improved Air Raid. Since he would be a 1st time OC, Rick might be less threatened by him.

Just completely not true.

LSU - 140 yds passing and 156 Rushing
UNC- 114 passing and 215 Rushing. Scored 10 points.
GT- avg 390 yds/ game and we held them to around 300. And that was the Defense's worst performance of the year.
Anybody can pull stats but those are skewed. LSU did whatever they wanted to our D and then tried to run the clock with an insurmountable lead.

However I will give Manny props because the defense improved and never gave up when they easily could have. How many 3 and outs did they face tonight? The offense has been the fecal stain on this team for two years. The defense hasn’t been perfect always but they have battled like dogs. They get my props.

i refuse to say that LSU had their way with the defense when statistically we had one of the worst defensive starting field positions in the whole country especially in that LSU game.

i highly doubt any other top 25 defenses have had to deal with that issue.

That’s great that you refuse but the game tape does not. Burrow looked like Joe Montana and they pounded and gashed our linebackers like long dong silver in anal celebration scene.

There are plenty of ways to make good hires. Some would say your candidate is "too green." Therefore, not proven enough for a place like Miami. I'm not one of those guys. I like risers. I love non-P5 coaches, for example. So long as they're risers and err on the aggressive side, their "imperfect" resumes fit the first couple parameters I wish were met.

Manny isn't special or elite, but he's a great fit for us in Miami.

**** shame his boss let him and his defense down.

Pay the man and give him the same position Jimbo had with Bobby at Free Shoes.
Honestly, Richt is turning into Bobby (in his old age) with his Jurassic offense and inept son following him around and ******** up.

Imagine what it would be like for Manny if he eventually takes us back where we belong??

The 3 offenses with a pulse we've played NC, GT, LSU gashed us
We struggled in certain areas vs LSU for sure (and I think the numbers don't show all our struggle in that game, which may have been our worst), but they still ended up with 296 total yards on 65 plays and were 3/16 on 3rd downs.
In what world did UNC gash us? They got 329 yards on 75 plays and were 2/13 on 3rd down. Our defense got 3 scores.
GT got 303 total yards. They moved the ball a bit. The only teams to hold them to less yards? Clemson and Georgia.

I wish our fans would insert a little context into their perspectives. Is this an old school, "best of the best" defense? Prob not. Remember, this is modern football, too. We're not mashing up against I-Form anymore. Is it a really good one that produced with their backs against the wall the entire year? It is by the eye test, by almost every single category and when you compare against opponents.
