13 scholarships in 1996-1997

The rest were taken from other sports. Even with that we still got guys in under track scholarships. However, in 1999 we were still losing to ECU after having a 21 point lead in the second half. That loss wasn't on scholarships. Butch had two advantages over Richt; the first was the internet wasn't a thing so every team in the nation didn't know about 3 star gems in South Florida. The second all of South Florida had seen Miami win championships. Now every team in the nation recruits all of South Florida and the south florida kids haven't seen Miami do anything since they were in diapers. The culture was dead.

Butch hit lightning in the bottle but your a fool if you think he'd do it again with the way college football has changed. Btw, Butch isn't even winning the conference USA while Lane Kiffin has taken a worse team and dominated the conference. Why aren't we talking about him over Butch?

The irony is that many have said he left for THE CLEVELAND BROWNS because the U wouldn't pay him.

Then he begs to come back 16 years later for a pitance.

Now he's making 900k at F-I-U.

First, do you really think "Bicht" is clever?
Second, I love Butch. But he will never do what he did again and he will never get a high profile job again. At this stage of his career he's not the best coach in the conference USA.

He wasn’t down 31 scholarships. It was 13 one season and 11 the next. The 11 in the second season really just stayed open from the first season. Even in that spot we got people in under track scholarships.

The difference was players like Santana we’re willing to stay and play under a track scholarships because of the Miami name. While now players like Juedy could care less and they make their money at Bama

They give him credit for a NC he didn’t win either. They call him a NC coach for carrying JJ’s hairspray in the 80s. Then they give him JJs Super Bowls too.

In the 2000 season that all the Butchtards point to as his high-water mark, Booch took the most talented team in the history of college football and lost to an overmatched UW team that Coker beat 66-3 the following year. Then, he allowed horrible La Tech to hang around against us, which caused us to lose our spot in the 2000 NC game because margin of victory was a big component of the title game formula back then.

My man...don't need History lessons on UM FB from 95-2000....I practically lived at Hecht....Don't even comment anymore...You and the rest of the Anti-Butch brigade have NO F-ing idea the uphill battle he had....for Garbage $$ too boot....If you and the others knew the Hrs..and Miles logged in by the staff, trying to right the ship those yrs...you'd be stunned....

The thing is I’m not the “anti-Butch brigade”. He’s one of my favorite coaches and I love the guy for what he did for us. However, I’m aware of why he hasn’t been a coach at a P5 school and why he won’t be ever again. I’m aware that college football has changed and Miami will never again have the luxery of endless hidden gems in South Florida. I’m also aware that just as Richt is struggling with a new college football so would butch. That’s why he isn’t the best coach in the conference USA at the moment. It’s over. Move on.
