The Offense: Putrid & Predictable

Why give him so many opportunities?

This isn't a new thing that Rosier is inaccurate.

On the road, he completes 45.8% of his passes. In conference, he completes 51.5% of his passes.

What’s the alternative?

At least we acknowledged that if you don't trust your QB, don't give him so many opportunities.

Here is a thought...Use our vastly superior athletes to create mismatches against Pitt.

What does “create mismatches” mean?

You mean get guys open?

Like they were yesterday?

Either you’re naive or ignorant. Read Lu’s post above because if your post above is your position, I can’t argue with that.

You know better than this, man. Come on. There are a handful of options where you can put Rosier on the move. Any short dumps that don't require setting your feet and tossing an accurate pass significantly downfield. How many bootlegs have you seen? Only short roll I remember yesterday went for a late TD. And, that was a long pass. ****, we have a play from last year on PA where Kaaya would be on the move. The TE would get about 8-12 yards a pop. Haven't done it this year. When's the last time you saw an easy crossing route? Duke game? That went for a TD.

Every single person knows Rosier is wild. If we were trying to get him in a rhythm that didn't require dropping back, setting his feet and using good mechanics, and he were still ****ting the bed, I'd say "cool, this is 100% on Rosier." Also, it'd be helpful if we were less predictable in the run game. But, that probably wouldn't have mattered against what Pitt was doing yesterday. Against their front and attack, there are at least some things to try. If the answer is "this is our system/philosophy and so be it," then Rosier is naturally going to let you down at times. It's a miracle it hadn't already happened.

We know Richt is limited with what Rosier can do and further limited by the apparent alternatives to playing him. We're really just going to place 100% of the blame on Rosier not being able to execute plays he's been erratic in and that's that? Coaches don't deserve all the blame. Neither do players unless everything has been attempted.

I honestly thought this was obvious but apparently it is not. I give you credit for having the patience.

Just after I wrote the above, ND's erratic-as-**** QB hits a crossing route for about 9 yards and the WR takes it for a 75-yard TD. Would Rosier be so bad to even mess up that play? Maybe. But, it'd be easier to fling this absolute blame if we saw stuff like it attempted. The point here is everyone should get thrown under the bus; or no one.

He's neither. He's one of the smartest posters I know on or off the board. CAA knew exactly what he was asking. For whatever reason, I've read a lot of people just want to lay the blame on one person (QB1). Maybe it's easier because we know we're not stuck with Rosier for too long.

I know we had guys open but I still wish we were more creative on offense

wide open guys are good enough for me.
Those are low percentage throws for a reason. Rosier did miss open receivers deep yesterday (and short) but he was out of his rythm. Richt doesn't put him in high percentage situations and it's painfully obvious. When your QBs accuracy is suspect, when all else fails 4 verts! Makes sense.

Rosier missed streaks.
He missed posts.
He missed corner routes.
He missed out routes.
He missed seam routes.
He missed slants.
He missed bubbles.

What were we supposed to call?
Bro, sending players in motion will solve all problems bro.

If we’re willing/allowing him to throw the ball repeatedly deep, and miss. Perhaps he might do better with something faster/shorter and less time to think/read.

We can never run motion again and there'd still be more options than the low % stuff listed there. Funny stuff. Apparently, because it finally cost us an L, it's a surprise a QB who has been called wild before the season, shown to be wild during the season...was wild yesterday when asked to convert low % plays.

I keep saying it. Whose fault is it, that terrible teams and average teams can completely shut our run down? Syracuse, UNC, Pitt. No one can convince me that's on Rosier. The guy is an inconsistent QB. He should not be tossing the ball 34 times a game. Should throw more than 18-25 times. Most of his throws are in long yardage.

He's not a great QB, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying he should not be forced to throw the ball many times. Our offense is uncreative. It's easy to shut our runs down. Why haven't we even run the wildcat with a better player to read it than Rosier in Dallas? Where are the end around, where are the reverses. We keep running it up the middle for 1 yard or none. It's ridiculous. Every 3rd down is 3rd and 7 or more. Next thing. Where are the boot legs? Get the QB on the edge where he can run or throw easy crossing routes. I'm not a coach but our offense has sucked all season in long periods. I place this on the coaches. We can't run the ball with our massive OL, against bum *** teams. Sorry not Rosier fault

I don’t know why we haven’t used the TE rollout play. Maybe because we don’t have a credible FB/2nd TE, so Richt is avoiding that formation. Maybe Rosier is **** turning his back to the line of scrimmage. Maybe he can’t throw on the run.

I know Richt likes the play and isn’t using it for a reason. Maybe Rosier just doesn’t execute it well.

As for short throws, Rosier missed those as well. He missed several bubbles, a couple out routes, and a quick slant.

Pitt was crowding the line. We needed to hit *something* to loosen them up.

I’ve said many times Richt could be better, but I think he’s squeezed about as much as he can out of Rosier.

Can we please have Rosier on the bootleg more???

He is a mobile QB....unless he is just plain horrible at bootleg pass plays, this would be playing his strength as a mobile QB.

If he’s woefully inaccurate throwing from the pocket what makes you think he’ll be any better throwing on the run?

Pure comedy on this site.

Hilarious indeed. But, expected from you, who once said Richt was the "innovator of the run and shoot offense." I get it. To you, Richt is never at any fault. Ever. Even last year, when he admitted to being rusty, you still disagreed with him. You're aware of the incredible amount of options that are better than low percentage options inside the pocket from a proven inaccurate QB, right? I guess it comes down to this:

You guys really believe having a wildly erratic - from footwork to mechanics - QB sit in the pocket and make low % tosses downfield is better than...pretty much any other option?

Oh I agree with you that blame should be shared, but as someone that admittedly doesn’t understand Xs and Os, I would put more of the blame on Rosier than anyone else. Doesn’t absolve Richt or the Oline but I saw Rosier as the most at fault yesterday.

My issue is more with people that complain about the play calling week in/out. It’s a message board and they are welcome to it, but I respect someone like yourself or CAA that goes in depth as to why the playcalling was fine or wasn’t.

If Richt absolvers would take this approach, I'd have no problem with it. I think Rosier is exactly what he's shown to be. He looked worse yesterday because Narduzzi literally forced him into the lowest % throws possible and we didn't really try anything else. So all that means is blame should be shared to at least some degree. Some people can't handle that, I guess.

Honest question for you, what do you think is the reasoning behind Richt not calling higher percentage plays? Could he be seeing something during the week that’s making him shy away from those calls? I get what you’re saying about Richt, what I’m not understanding is the possible reasoning behind it.

I have no problem with however you want to cut up the blame. I just know it's not surprising to see a wild-*** QB be extra wild throwing low percentage routes. Richt has really helped Rosier in other games when he came out with, for example, the 5WR wrinkle. Rosier needs a ton of his help.

I hear what you’re saying, but when I watch the games again, I see shallow crossers.

Perhaps Richt’s bigger problem is he’s giving Rosier too much latitude in terms of reading coverage as opposed to telling him “throw it here.”

Rosier often makes odd decisions and reads the wrong side of the field. Part of that is coaching, but part of it is Rosier is limited.

The difference really was about 2 yards on a few attempts. He had hit those earlier in the year.

I have no answer for why we don't run other stuff. I know Richt knows a CRAZY amount of offense, so as I've said throughout the year, it seems he has some deep trust issues with Rosier. He's brought out different wrinkles/bullets previously. He didn't bring anything new out yesterday. And, Pitt stung us.

Rosier often makes odd decisions and reads the wrong side of the field. Part of that is coaching, but part of it is Rosier is limited.
With the intent of staying off the board till later in the week, I only jumped into the board because the absolute blame flowing in one direction irks me. We talked about that off the board. Frankly, Rosier's execution is a bigger part of our failure, but come on, we knew this, no?

I know we had guys open but I still wish we were more creative on offense

wide open guys are good enough for me.

One game sample vs two years? That’s not good enough for me...

It is not a one game sample. It is that we lost so everything has been under the microscope. Mallk has played like trash most games this year save a couple year here and there. Because he has been able to dig us out of hole he put us in, he has gotten a pass for the most part.

Thank you for this. The people who know the least are the most outraged about what happened yesterday, and look for reasons to blame coaching for an abysmal performance by Malik. You have to at least give your playmakers a chance to make plays and Malik wasn't able to do that yesterday.

Take nothing away from Pitt who had a solid offensive game-plan and a defense that came to play, but if Malik could hit the broad side of a bard yesterday we win that game and aren't having this discussion.
