The Offense: Putrid & Predictable

I know we had guys open but I still wish we were more creative on offense

wide open guys are good enough for me.
Those are low percentage throws for a reason. Rosier did miss open receivers deep yesterday (and short) but he was out of his rythm. Richt doesn't put him in high percentage situations and it's painfully obvious. When your QBs accuracy is suspect, when all else fails 4 verts! Makes sense.

Can we please have Rosier on the bootleg more???

He is a mobile QB....unless he is just plain horrible at bootleg pass plays, this would be playing his strength as a mobile QB.

Given the obvious deficiencies at OLine, you’d think we’d see this more.

Sure as **** worked against our D yesterday.

Well said. Similar issue with the running game.

I have been posting this for months. The good news is Clemson doesn't know its coming and it will or CMR has some serious "splaining" to do

If he’s woefully inaccurate throwing from the pocket what makes you think he’ll be any better throwing on the run?

I agree with the point that we need more pre-snap motion. Also, I would like to see Richt design plays that get Rosier outside the pocket, buying our receivers time to get open.

Rosier missed streaks.
He missed posts.
He missed corner routes.
He missed out routes.
He missed seam routes.
He missed slants.
He missed bubbles.

What were we supposed to call?

You can count on one hand the amount of times we had any pre-snap motion yesterday.

Why does Richt refuse to do this regularly? The few times we have, it’s been successful: Berrios jet-sweep vs Virginia Tech, Fake Jet Sweep Counter vs ND (?) where Herndon pulled leading Homer for 20+ yd gain.

If Richt insists on RPO can we fake a jet-sweep for ****’s sakes? Maybe move Thomas, Dallas or Richards around to create some matchups? These aren’t radical concepts folks.

The offense, for a majority of the season, has been unimaginative and predictable. We absolutely can beat Clemson, but that **** will get us stomped next week.

Does motion help the QB pass the ball to the WR's?

That would be like ET phoning home type cra cra

The play calling has been fine. You're not going to win games when you keep missing wide open receivers all game. This is also the reason some of our other games were so close.

In anyone is curious, here is what happened in 2016 v. 2017 during ACC play:

2016 (averages): Defense

Points Allowed: 21.75 (This includes the 7 points on the STs TD against Pitt, the 100 Yard Return) [Actual Points Allowed is 20.875]
Yards Allowed: 397.75
Turnovers: 1.5
Sacks: 2.5
Tackles for Loss: 6.75

2016 (averages): Offense

Points Scored: 29.38 (This includes the 14 points the D scored against GT, 2 Fumble TDs) [Actual Points Scored is 27.625]
Yards Gained: 394.13
Turnovers: .63
Sacks: 2
Tackles for Loss: 5.5

2017 (averages): Defense

Points Allowed: 18.75 (This includes the 7 points on the STs onside kick flop against GT) [Actual Points Allowed is 17.875]
Yards Allowed: 368.25
Turnovers: 2.75
Sacks: 3.75
Tackles for Loss: 8.75

2017 (averages): Offense

Points Scored: 27.125 (This includes the 7 points the D scored against UVA, Johnson Pick 6) [Actual Points Scored is 26.25]
Yards Gained: 392.625
Turnovers: 1.25
Sacks: 2.375
Tackles for Loss: 5.375

So to review:

1. In 2016, we went 5-3 in ACC play. In 2017, we went 7-1 in ACC play.
2. On defense, we essentially improved in EVERY category. Most notably, we allowed less points and less yards per game.
3. On offense, we essentially regressed in almost EVERY category. Most notably, we scored less points and gained less yards per game.

------

Above are all 16 games in conference in 2016 and 2017. It is clear as day where the REAL problems are with this team. This doesn't mean that the defense is perfect, it just means that there are obvious places to focus on if we want to get better.

thinking about the post. Rosier can't handle more than one read, how is going handle players shifting and moving around ??

We’ve used pre-snap motion successfully before as cited in the OP.

Pre-snap motion really gives up whether they are in man or zone. My biggest issue is we don't run enough crossing routes and I think this is primarily due to Rosier's inaccuracy at times. Richt is trying to minimize turnovers which for the most part he has done all season.

Last year we had Coley, Richards, and Walton healthy. I’m sure all of us would have predicted much worse if we knew Walton would be gone and Richards would be a non factor. Also, while Rosier makes plays to win games Kaaya could put up better numbers when he was bad so the stats aren’t everything there

Rosier need to be more accurate but Richt needs to modernize his offense. Play to your personnel strengths. Imagine Auburn/Clemson offense with our Defense!!

it's there in the playbook, as has been shown vs vatech AND notre dame

so if you want the right but unpopular answer? We shouldn't HAVE TO ***ING USE THOSE PLAYS VS PITTSBURG

***s sake man, our receivers were wide open on go routes all game long

richt has shown he has a playbook and he does save it for the big games this season.

long story short, complete a **** pass.

So Clemson trades Kelly Bryant for Rosier? You know their dline isn’t bad either right?
