This argument is flawed, you have the wrong parties.
Parties:
1. Young athletes off all socioeconomic background, and they all want to get paid.
2. Large swathes of Millenials, aged 18-40, don’t buy the “paid with tuition” argument. Cool beans old timer. The reserve insured student loans, so of course the boomers exploded tuition exponentially and now all of us need to spend $150k just to get the 2019 functional equivalent of a high school diploma. These diplomas are useless. My J.D. cost me a mortgage- the reward? I basically get to start life not homeless. Old timer, your degree was worth a lot, and cost very little. That ***** dead.
3. Very small contingency of old heads near/around the NCAA, raking in tons of cash. This system is perfect for them. Why should they share?
4. And finally, the most stubborn, not even worth a mention because they’ll never change. The super old heads. Life as it was in 1964(when I played Tackle at State) is the same as it is now. You learn about life. And women. And laundry. And probably something about fundamental geometry. Also, there’s 1 tv on campus, and it gets 3 channels. The internet doesn’t exist. We’re reminded about the civil war every time we take a drink of water.
My point: you’ll never ever be able to bring these groups together and appreciate progress in similar ways.
