The New Bash Brothers

To this day, my most embarrassing moment as a Canes fan 😒

I gotta go with Gurvan Hall hitting his teammate instead of the ball carrier.

A close second was a TE screen vs Clemson in the game Golden got fired. Our entire DL ignored the OL letting them go right by them and didn't think to sink back with them. The TE caught the ball and the OL barely had anybody to block. The TE walked in without a defender within 10 ft of him.

People don't realize just how BAD Manny recruited his own position... No evals or development...

2016 was our last good LB class: Shaq, Pink, Zach (This class was actually recruited by and committed to Al Golden)

Manny DC/LB:
2017: Wilder (Injury), Steed (Injury), Jennings (Transfer)
2018: Joyner (Transfer)
2019: K. Smith, Brooks (Injury), Huff (Transfer)

Manny HC
2020: Flagg, Austin-Cave (Transfer)
2021: Troutman (Dismiss), T. Johnson (Transfer), Davis (Transfer), C. Smith (Injury)
2022: Wesley Bissainthe (181), Caleb Johnson (Portal) - (Mario's partial class)

Mario's first real class:
2023: Francisco Mauigoa (Portal), Malik Bryant (103), Raul “Popo” Aguirre (181), Bobby Washington (451), Marcellius Pulliam (723)

Based on what? This picture?

I hope they are great but threads like this are just stupid. Sorry, I know you are enthusiastic but speaking superlatives of guys who have never taken a snap is just silly.

We were bending, not breaking, or something to that effect.....lol

"Like a coach on the field"

"A hard hat and lunch pail type of guy"

"The kind of young man you want to marry your daughter"

... and then when his eligibility is finished ...

"He probably won't test well at the combine"

"Hopefully someone will give him a chance as a free agent"

"Miami coaches say a key recruiting objective is to get faster at linebacker"

A real spark plug

Future in coaching

Vilma came in at 6' 195 lbs. Ray not much more than that. But generally, you probably want guys 210+ when you recruit them.

Most important thing is vision/diagnostic ability (some refer to this as "instincts"). If a kid doesn't have that, highly unlikely he'll be a good LB no matter how big and fast he is. Never liked trying to convert undersized DEs to LB (which was most of Manny's LB recruits).
Like you said, those guys although smaller played entirely in space in HS. Ray not only played LB but a lot of safety in HS. We’ve been bringing in guys who would be undersized LBs who never played in space and expecting them to not only grow to LB size but develop that vision/diagnostic ability.

We went away from our blueprint of bringing in big safeties and LBs and moving them down. It’s been a losing strategy before they ever stepped foot on campus.

You look at their HS film to get an idea of how they play, add to that comments from HS coaches then the comments from the U staff. This after all a Canes board to discuss the program in all aspects. Nice that Pulliam was 6'3" and 220 while Aguirre was 6'2' and 215 finishing high school. Easily play at 230 pounds with solid S&C. Huge difference from kids working to get UP to 200 pounds!!

I completely agree on the lack of development, but I remember this board being extremely excited about the 2017 LB class, excited about the 2019 LB class and this board thought we landed all sleepers/diamonds in the rough in 2021.

I really don’t remember this board being against most of the takes under Manny. I remember this board drooling over troutman because he was legit taking dudes heads off on film, Johnson no one knew what he was but everyone wanted him due to his size and family, Davis was a dawg on his high school film he just never grew, and Smith…you already know.

Exactly if they come here we hail them the best since blah blah blah. If there from south Florida oh shoot we just stole Gurvan Hall, Wiggins Shaq, from Bama. Cool the hype and at least win the ACC

Bash brothers in hearing this reminds me of the Blackwood brothers from the Miami Dolphins DB back in the day.

Two of the hardest hitters ever in the NFL in the class of Doug Plank Bears and Gary Fenzek of the NY Giants.
