The Nevin hit piece reporter is fired

At no point was there any type of critical eye or attempt to separate fact from fiction. Shapiro had bank records, all his financial allegations are true.

Shapiro has photos with players, every social allegation is true.

Shapiro told a good story? Heck yeah, print it.

This story could've been written with a critical eye that attempted to uncover Miami football being wild and getting a few hundred dollars in cash for sacks etc. but this guy turned it into the worst football corruption in history.

For that, his name will always be mud to me and I will hold a grudge unless he admits wrongdoing and apologizes.

The separate page or popup for each player highlighting their benefits allegedly received was wild.
 
I remember for those old school heads that website The Mainboard or whatever it was for general college football fans. It started to leak in a post that a team was going to go down and I remember trolling being like it’s this school it’s that school lmao then it was fkn us 😂

Its why I left Canesport. I remember someone posted that we should move to canesinsight.com after and I bounced been here since.
 
Is anyone willing to bet their life that none of it was true? The investigation and potential damage was out of proportion, but ti was the nature of college football at that time. I still remember Nate Webster losing his eliogibility because he had faxed in his papers for the fraft but couldn't get them back. Pretty silly in light of what is legal now.

I didn't say "none of it" was true. But there was a massive amount of exaggeration on Nevin's part.

Barry and that little ponzi schemer went to high school together. Same school I attended. They were either the same year or Barry was a year behind Nevin.

Nope. But they sure didn't help. I blame Robinson less than Shapiro and the UM athletics dept at the time who were all too happy to give access and not ask questions if the checks cleared.
 
Just like Pony Excess and the 30 for 30 on Miami.

Everyone wanted to slam Miami for yacht rides and steak dinners but always ignored the message that what they were doing was no where NEAR in comparison to what other schools were doing at the time.

Mark Emmert/NCAA was busy slamming Miami and USCw to get Alabama off the ground and running.

It directly affected Al Golden’s first full recruiting class, which traditionally for new coaches in the strongest because it’s full of hope for the new regime. The allegations weren’t settled for another two years. Theoretically, Golden might have had a stronger and more depth filled roster in 2013, which changes the trajectory for his tenure if they finish 10-2 or 11-1.

The initial news broke in September 2010…that a Miami booster had allegations about giving gifts. Then it went dark until August 2011.
 
I remember this(unfortunately) like it was yesterday. I recall the NCAA threatening former players to testify and all of them (except maybe a couple) gave the 🖕to them.

As for Nevin, that pile of vomit should have never been released from prison.

Some of it was bogus but plenty of it was true, just irrelevant. Kids getting a ride on a boat? Hanging out at a house? (deemed unsponsored entertainment). A couple meals. Just ridiculous horse**** teated like the school was harboring murderers.

Second, the "social" stuff. Yes, he had some pictures. Context is harder to show. I'm a UM alum, I've met UM football players on a frequent basis since 1986 (well before the invention of the cell phone). ****, if I just took pictures at the luncheon before the UM-ND game, I'd be able to have photographic evidence of meeting a couple dozen UM players and coaches (and one former mascot). We have to acknowledge that the BENEFITS of being an alum or a booster include meeting the athletes. And just as I mentioned above, context is everything.

So even with Nevin's bank records and photos, I STILL question the context. I STILL don't believe very many of his allegations, in spite of the APPEARANCE of "evidence".

Nevin spent money. Nevin appeared in some pictures with players.

And Charles Robinson and Yahoo built all of that into a mountain of bull****.

I don't think I did a good job coming across as intended. I'm agreeing with you.

Robinson took a piece of circumstantial evidence and extrapolated that out into being factual and evidentiary of all statements.

Bank records didn't prove the allegations. Photos didn't prove the allegations.

They were simply enough to convince the court of public.
