The Nevin hit piece reporter is fired

I will forever hold a grudge. Not because he did his job and wrote a story that did damage to my favorite team, but the lack of scruples in how it was written. It was written as fact and that all the allegations were credible and with evidence. It was honestly top of mind as an example of a writer seeking publicity and eyeballs over any sort of truth exposition.

At no point was there any type of critical eye or attempt to separate fact from fiction. Shapiro had bank records, all his financial allegations are true.

Shapiro has photos with players, every social allegation is true.

Shapiro told a good story? Heck yeah, print it.

This story could've been written with a critical eye that attempted to uncover Miami football being wild and getting a few hundred dollars in cash for sacks etc. but this guy turned it into the worst football corruption in history.

For that, his name will always be mud to me and I will hold a grudge unless he admits wrongdoing and apologizes.

I only (slightly) disagree on two points.

First, he had "bank records". That showed expenditures. But that never showed WHO was present. Now, if Nevin ALSO had detailed time-stamped photos showing all the people present AT THE SAME TIME he put $5K on his AmEx, then there would be some validation of his claims. Even the most explosive claim (Nevin paid for an abortion) could have been for NEVIN'S BABY. We will never know.

Second, the "social" stuff. Yes, he had some pictures. Context is harder to show. I'm a UM alum, I've met UM football players on a frequent basis since 1986 (well before the invention of the cell phone). ****, if I just took pictures at the luncheon before the UM-ND game, I'd be able to have photographic evidence of meeting a couple dozen UM players and coaches (and one former mascot). We have to acknowledge that the BENEFITS of being an alum or a booster include meeting the athletes. And just as I mentioned above, context is everything.

So even with Nevin's bank records and photos, I STILL question the context. I STILL don't believe very many of his allegations, in spite of the APPEARANCE of "evidence".

And Charles Robinson and Yahoo built all of that into a mountain of bull****.

It was a classic case of fraudulent conveyance.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, fraudulent conveyance is common in corporate bankruptcy cases and is when the party illegally transfers assets (or claims assets were transferred) to third parties for the purpose of attempting to avoid paying creditors.

Shapiro was trying to avoid paying his creditors by saying that the money was spent on our players. The bonus was getting us in trouble with the NCAA.

Pretty sure Syracuse told him themselves at the time. I found out because they were posting about it all over twitter back then. They supported us.

IF there even was an abortion.

Dude claimed he took 10 players to Benihana’s. The bill he showed was $75. My husband and I couldn’t eat at Benihana’s for $75. 🙄

I have a picture with me and Lawrence Taylor. Guarantee he has no idea who I am. I met him once in 2000.
