The Nevin hit piece reporter is fired

didn't gary ferman give this guy a platform? i remember ferman hosting multiple shows with either this guy or shapiro on them. Is this correct? shapiro himself said that his goal was to destroy the UM football program so to me anyone in any way assisting that trash is a traitor to this school.
 
His editors are the ones to blame. They never should’ve let it go public, instead they chose the traffic it brought them.

They literally had dossier profiles for each player that were interact-able and listed each violation Nevin claimed to have given them. No credible evidence, just accusations that a convicted criminal had provided, along with his bank records. So on one hand, they blamed UM for being swindled by him. On the other, they took his word as gospel, pure, and without motivation. Wild times, the internet was much different back then.

I remember sitting at my kitchen table after talking to a friend who had read the article. He just said, “it’s bad man. Real bad.”

My young wife asked if I was ok, because I had a vein in my neck and forehead bulging. I thought our program was going to get the death penalty. Mind you, she’d seen me go through my dad dying suddenly.

I’ll never forget Chuckles’ “coming up for air” tweet. I didn’t know what twitter was before that.

May his career never resurface again.

which is wild now that he's started a whole channel dedicated to UM football now. Bringing former players to talk and ****.

Is the internet different now? If anything, I think he could have said anything with no credibility behind it or even the slightest shred of evidence and people would still take it as gospel. Add in AI and the possibilities are endless.

If you don’t mind, refresh my memory, please. What was the “coming up for air“ tweet and what was the context of it?

I meant more how information traveled and was shared, not the standards. The standards back then were higher, actually.

The only guys who questioned the validity of the piece at the time were Dan Wolken and Jason Whitlock. Wolken questioned the shoddy sourcing and Whitlock basically said “where’s the drugs?”, meaning there was nothing in the article or follow ups that indicated Nevin did anything illegal, thus he must’ve sanitized the story or made it all up.
