Not bound by geographic restrictions I jumped on the bandwagons in the 80s and early 90s. Experienced a lot of wining from my favorites: Canes, Pens, Braves, Cowboys, Irvin, Lemieux, Fleury, Glavine, Tiger, Tyson, Lesnar through the years. Only Kournikova failed to win it all but in her case the participation trophy was good enough.
And of course heartaches: Ovechkin, Vanbiesbrouck and your stupid rats, Teague, Warren Morris, Jack Morris, Puckett, the slider to Leyritz when he couldn't touch the fastball, Eric Gregg's one sided strike zone which of course leads to Terry Porter. Only 3 times in my life have I experienced the feeling of complete emptiness/sadness/depression. When my HS GF dumped me, my younger brother passing and after the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. I was literally sick and had the feeling like someone actually died for days after that game.
You get older and realize there are more important things in life than sports. My life is so much better that I don't care about a Thur. night Jets/Browns game or spend 9hrs refershing CBS sportsline. The cowboys are dead, the Braves no longer on TBS everyday. Pens failed to protect Fleury. But I still live and die Canes football.
The last time I cared this much about a sporting event? Tiger's 2019 Masters is close but no. 2009 Stanley Cup G7 maybe. Lot of similarities to people blaming Fleury and saying the pens would never win with"playoff Fleury" to the crowd here that Miami would never win with "caveman mario." Fleury was excellent in that G7 proving all the doubters wrong and hoisting Lord Stanley on the defending champion's ice. Monday night Mario's bro ball does the same bringing Miami back to their righful place on top of college football world.
