The More You Know...About Syracuse

We swung and missed with Ermon Lane and Johnnie Dixon, and settled on Berrios, Brady and Langham. The knock on him was a

Not sure Lane and Dixon were misses. Dixon hasn't done a thing in 4 years.

And Lane is a safety.

That's really not the point. We tried to get them and didn't. It also proves that sometimes when you think you missed on players and the sky is falling it's really smart to just wait and see how the players develop and progress. I would take BB and Langham over Dixon and Lane any day.

We matchup way better against Cuse than Clemson did.
Clemson has the 25th most efficient offense in the country. Which is good to very good.
But they have the 113th most explosive offensive the country. Which is just insanely bad for an average G5 school, let alone top tier P5 team.
They desperately rely on Bryant to run for 3 to 6 yards to keep their offense on track as they first down their way down the field. He couldn't do that on one leg. So Syracuse just flooded the box and dared Clemson to beat them with big plays in the passing game. And with the 113th "most" explosive offense (112th explosive passing offense) that was impossible. Which allowed Syracuse's offense to stay on the field, wear down Clemson's defense, and win the game.
We have the 17th most efficient offense, and 13th most explosive. Syracuse isn't going to be able to flood the box against us and just focus on stopping the run.

Good stats. Thx

Syracuse should be beatable.. Watched both middle tennesee and lsu game. Pass defense is awful, homer should eat, they lose contain on outside run plays fairly often. Saying all of that.

Averaging about 25 points a game.. Looks like it should be close. We win and I believe a guy like Dean could really eat this game. I mean eat!

The thing that excites me the most is that they are the complete opposite of the Jackets.
They will try to run as many plays as possible which means if we hold them to three and outs we will have way more possessions and opportunities to put points on the board.

Last week was like watching paint dry with the time wasting tactics the Jackets used in trying to hold on to the ball. Syracuse does not care about time of possession at all and are reckless with it quite frankly.

Great stuff!!

Thanks Dan, glad to have you back. Didn’t see anything on how much they drop off on the road.

As previously stated in other threads, this D has carried the load in ACC play. It would be nice if the offense showed up and played well for a full game.

Our Defense will need to terrorize the QB. On offense we need to pound the run game and then carve explosive down field throws.

How does the Syracuse qb handle blitzing? Was listening to a breakdown of Cal v WSU and they said that Cal just blitzed non stop and Falk couldn't get into a rhythm. Sounds like Syracuse runs a wide open offense, should be lots of possessions. Think playing a high risk high reward would suit us well, I think six sacks min and force at least two ints. Just don't want to give their qb time to survey field and pick us apart.

We're going to go out there, we're going to play this "other team" Syracuse with their ***** orange and blue **** uniforms. We aren't just going to beat them, we will grab them and we will **** their sisters in the ****! Are you listening? Bring it in. Come on. **** these people!

From watching the condensed game this is the game where we want Manny to blitz alot.
Everytime Clemson sent 5 or more rushers at the QB they had alot of success.
All 6 of Clemson's sacks came from blitzes.

Dungey loves to drop his eyes when a blitz comes. Some of the passes he was able to get when he were blitzed were mostly behind the line of scrimmage which led to tackle for loss except one where it should've been stopped but the clemson Db missed the tackle and the rb went on to score.

Clemson's problem is they love to rush only 3 sometimes and dungey ate that up. His big runs and his big passing plays all came when Clemson rushed 3.

The truth is this is a really good match up for our defense.
Where we have struggled this year is defensive efficiency. Teams have success down to down. Which is probably going to be a weakness of Diaz's system. He is willing to let you nickel and dime it down field, betting that we will get a turnover or tackle for loss before you are able to score, thereby ending your long drive.
We're 46th in defensive efficiency, 21 in defensive explosiveness, and 20th in finishing drives. Meaning we are average down to down, really good at stopping big plays, really good at preventing scores/touchdowns when your long drive is successful. Manny Diaz 101.
Syracuse is 94th in offensive efficiency, 78th in explosiveness, 77th in finishing drives. So if the weakness of Diaz is teams that are capable of methodically moving down the field, and then getting TDs when they have moved down field, that isn't Syracuse. They are horrible at exploiting the one thing we are average at.
