Frightened and overwhelmed by the moment

I will never forget him trying to milk the clock with 12+ minutes left before calling a timeout against CMU. Trying to escape with a W, against CMU... Then, he goes full ****** and calls a timeout thinking he's playing Madden 94 last Friday night. Yeah, Manny, our O that hadn't done a **** thing since the opening drive is now going to drive 90+ yards against a pretty good D. Clueless.

This is proof that we’ll complain about anything on this board. All last year people complained about Richt not trying to score before half but now we’re complaining that Manny called a timeout with 2 minutes to go. I’d hope my HC would want to score before half

No, it's proof some of us have common **** sense. When the UVA coach was letting the clock run, my thought was, "Good, we aren't going 90 yards to score in 2 minutes anyway." Manny thought otherwise and it ended up costing him 3 points.

For a guy that claims to be so big on numbers, why couldn't he do some basic math in his head that would tell him there was no evidence we could go 90 yards in 2 minutes? And if, IF he believes we can go 90 yards in 2 minutes, why the **** aren't we doing it more often? If he believes our 2 minute O is so **** good, he's a fool for not running it when all we had been doing was going 3 and out several drives.

At that point we only had two 3 and outs in the game. One of our four drives was a touchdown. You had two minutes to take a two score lead going into the half. Even a half decent punt return makes it a short field to a three point try. A good coach uses that time out every time. Enos’ stupid wildcat call on third and short is why we had to punt back to them

A half decent punt return? Seriously? Since when do we return punts from the 5 yard line? We were NOT getting any kind of field position from a punt return.

Knowing Dan Enos calls crap like he does, honestly, what faith should Diaz have in him? It cost us 3 points.

Again, one out of our four drives at the point was a touchdown. There was also two plays that were inches from being big pass play down the field. You call the timeout and go for points every time.

Not sure if anyone in this thread understands that Manny is a new HC. I'm sure everyone here has started a new job and mastered it after day one. Other people aren't quite as gifted.

What I think is important is we are seeing improvement. Virginia was the 2nd best team we've played this season and we limited all our mistakes other than drops by our WRs. Our team is trending UP because our coach is getting more experienced as evidence by Manny's involvement in the defense.

On a side note I watched Butch Davis and rarely ever was there a 'clean' game. Always disorganized penalties... always. UVA was a good indication that Manny's coaching is improving. Team was prepared!

Posted on another thread about Butch in the 1996 season and—the sideline antics, meltdowns and mistakes in a home loss to Virginia Tech.

Davis and Clement getting into it before the half—tied ball game 7-7, Miami driving and Clement wanting to go for the end zone. Butch lets him throw one more time with :08 remaining; Yatil Green reels it in on one-and line and falls out of bounds. Clock stops with :03 left.

Field goal unit on; Clement in full meltdown mode. Hokies call time out for too many men on field. Davis gives in to Clement and sends offense back out; can't get play off in time—no time outs—so hit with delay of game.

Enter Crosland for the field goal try and he pushes it well right.

Commentators were talking about the disfunction before the half and again when third quarter started.

For good measure, Miami loses late—down 14-7 and driving with Covington (in for injured Clement).

Second down, Tony Gatier wide open, drops sure touchdown on goal line. Third down, Covington runs for a few.

Fourth down, Covington tried to hit covered receiver back of end zone, Keion Carpenter jumps the route and goes 101 yards for the pick six—21-7, Hokies. Ballgame.

That was year two for Butch. People need to relax and not nitpick every rookie mistake an actual rookie head coach is making here. Judge him in 3-4 years if he's still making these same mistakes then.

Thank you! I remember those days of getting a delay of game on the first play of the game. Or coming out of a commercial break. People only remember the players and the 2000 team. But even then, the Washington game was chaos and the gameplan was incredibly stupid throwing in bad weather. Dorsey looked awful.

I believed in Manny BEFORE UVA and I believe him even more now. Recruiting is TBD but I see a lot of young studs on defense so he did something right. Our team has demonstrated the most fight I've seen in nearly two decades. We don't quit.

Nothing terrible about that game. It was a defensive battle and we made clutch play after clutch play in the 4th. UVA is a very intelligent football team which always gives us fits. Sorry it was 55-50 shoot out... but for the purist, it was an intense battle.
