The Legend Lives on............

He's a good fit for the Big 10.

Three yards and a cloud of dust with the occasional 30-40 yard run.

He did average 5.1 ypc here. I'd rather he was still on the roster but we've got Homer, Dallas, Burns in the mix. I'm done expecting anything from Choc.

I think that the Miami Herald said that a walk-on was giving Choc a battle for the 3rd string reps.

Depth at running back and tight end are real concerns.

At running back, Travis Homer is Mark Walton’s likely backup, though offensive coordinator Thomas Brown stopped short of saying that.

But he made clear Crispian Atkins is pushing Trayone Gray for the No. 3 job. Freshman Robert Burns (shoulder) isn’t expected to be ready for the opener, as Mark Richt has said.

“Atkins has been a pleasant surprise,” Brown said. “Every spot is up for grabs. Robert is getting mental reps. In the spring, he looked really good. Big, physical guy, really powerful with top end speed.”

When will Burns be able to play?

“Who knows?” Brown said.

Brown said receiver DeeJay Dallas hasn’t received any snaps at running back during camp.

But moving Dallas to running back “isn’t out of the question,” Brown said. “He’s a very versatile player. We can use him multiple returns, including kickoff returns and punt returns.”

At tight end, no clear cut backup has emerged behind Chris Herndon.

Michael Irvin Jr. has missed time with dehydration. Walk-on Malik Curry has received considerable work with the second-team. And freshman Brian Polendey remains a work in progress.

“Curry has been solid every day, consistent,” Brown said. “It would be tough to make it through some practices without him. He’s been great for us so far. Polendey is being more consistent with run blocking and knowing what to do and catching the ball out in space will be a big thing for us. But he’s been fine.”

I don't think Burns EVER plays.Hes made of crystal..cheap crystal.

Only RB ever to get injured getting hit playing Madden.

That's not exactly what coach Brown said when asked that directly. He said every spot is up for grabs. Then he backed up and said except for Walton. He's got RB 1 on lock, but after him it's an open competition and every player is going to get an opportunity.

I remember that play at the scrimmage and all the fans in the seats looking around to each other asking why are they celebrating allowing a 10 yard gain on D?

Even my dad, who always compared his running style to Jim Brown, has finally conceded he stinks. The guys a puzzy, which is why he left to compete against pedestrian talents like us. You want to know how a real Cane feels about competing? Listen to the Jarrett Payton interview on WQAM the other day. Back half of interview he talked Canes and how people tried getting him to transfer because he was in RB room w Gore, Portia, and EJ. IMO, He is a real Cane, not a poser Like Gus, Linder, and Sonny

I think we'll miss Yearby way more than Gus, but we failed to replace either of them and it will come back to bite us at some point in 2017 unless Gray comes out of nowhere and becomes dependable.

I don't blame Gus for leaving. It's clear that Walton is the starter no matter what, so made sense to transfer somewhere he felt he could compete for the starting job.

Gus was a solid player and I wish him well. I'd expect him to win the starting job at Rutgers, but he might have a tough year because that team is awful.

Yeah it's hard to blame them when Walton is the clear starter and workhorse.

Yearby had to go try and make some money to feed his kids, and Gus also has a kid and will get more carries at Buttgers.

If anyone is to blame it's Brown for putting his faith in McFarland and Burns. But Lingard/Davis goes a long way toward restoring his good standing.

Homer COMIN

Walton/Homer should be fine but having that 3rd guy is key.

Don't know if it'll be Gray, Dallas, Atkins, Burns...but right now it appears there's no favorite.
Correct. Our 3rd RB has been a huge factor forever. Need to get that spot nailed down with a star.

Don't need him to be a star but if something happens to Walton then...you know.

Like when Gore went down in 2003 you had Payton and Moss.

1999 when Davenport went down you still had Jackson and Portis.

We need to get back to having at 3 or more Miami-caliber RBs on the roster, and I think we will in 2018.

Didn't Payton go for 1,000? Moss had a really good year here too and was on his way before he tore up his knee. Neither was proven, though, before their number was called. Not so sure we or anyone else will ever have a stable of RBs like we had with Portis, McGahee, Davenport and Gore.

What do you think of Berries as our emergency RB? Super smart kid, so he'd pick up the position in five minutes. Played RB in HS. Has decent size.

Not Rokika, but that is a very good idea. Berries has great lateral quickness to go with his straightline speed and has proven that he's tougher than Al Sharpton's hair.

I like Berries at RB quite a bit. He looked like a RB on that long run in the Son Bowl.

He was much better suited for WR as a true freshman before he got all stocky.

Meanwhile at UGA, you've got Nick Chubb and Sony Michel BOTH coming back for their 4th seasons...

You can't explain that

Recently on QAM, Payton said he was getting pressure to transfer because the RB room has Gore, EJ, and Portis. He said staying and competing with those guys helped make him a man. He thanked a former College player (Bellamy?) for wearing his dad's jersey, the guy answered Youre Jarrett Payton who played at the U". Said It means something to play at the U. Said if beating FSU twice in one season was his only legacy, that's good enough for him.
So that was Payton. Gus and the others run into someone, what does that someone say..Hey your Gus Edwards/Nick Linder, the guy who quit The U because you didn't have the balls to compete?
