The Irony of all this...

I continue to be amazed that so many Canes fans still consider the Larry Coker hire to be a bad move by the university. Hiring Larry Coker was absolutely the right thing to do at the time. The man won a national title and for all intents and purposes, won a second consecutive national title. What else could anyone have hoped for at that time?

Where UM failed in this regard was two-fold:
1) Giving him a contract extension after the 2004 season that extremely favorable to coach Coker w/r/t the early termination buyout. Coker's market value did not command that kind of contract, but as we went on to learn about donna, she cared not about on-field results; Only about the team's PR image.

2) Not terminating Larry Coker after the 2005 season. It was evident to even the least knowledge Canes football follower that Coker was not the right man to continue to run this program going forward. But yet again, donna chose to give him another year because she felt he was a good PR steward of the program. I truly believe if the FIU brawl incident not occurred, Coker would have also been given the 2007 season as well.
This, 1000x, this.

Anyone trying to discredit the opinions of the former players who actually put on the uniform and still care about the success of this program by using revisionist history vis-a-vis the Coker hire are just bytches who can eat a d1ck.

some of the main ex players in the media and committee that are being consulted for the coaching vacancy are the same dudes that forced Larry Coker in and started the demise...Someone needs to break the cycle and make a big out of the box move here.

Im thinking a stud NFL assistant that no-one knows and will **** everyone off and not Hue Jackson, a true unknown up and comer

Didn't Larry win a NC?

I was agreeing with the OP until he said not Hue Jackson. I agree that we shouldn't rule out NFL OC/DC's. However, saying it shouldn't be Hue Jackson is flat out wrong. Look at what he's doing in Cinncy right now.

Hue Jackson hasn't coached in college since Napoleon was exiled.

Not to be a stickler, but it was the Season before Napoleans exile.

A much younger Hue is on the starboard aft oar:

The players wanted Coker not for his coaching prowess (or lack thereof) but rather to maintain the same culture they had instituted with Butch.

They didn't want some coach to come in and change the schemes and the way things were done at Hecht.

Players at UM wanted the same after Shnelly and Jimmy, but fortunately we had Sam jankovich went out of the box
