Malvern (Pa.) Malvern Prep OL and Cane commitment Hayden Mahoney played basketball after football season the last two years.

But not this time.

"I'm giving it up to work on training (for his arrival at UM)," Mahoney said. "I want to get a lot bigger, a lot faster and stronger. So I'm not playing (basketball), I'm just lifting and getting ready for Miami."

He currently weighs 280 pounds and plans to get "to around 290, 295 if I can. Just lean, good weight so I can move. And I'll put on more when I get there. They (Cane coaches) said to come in the best shape I can and the weight will take care of itself."

Mahoney could play guard or tackle at UM, and he got a visit from Cane coaches a couple of weeks ago.

"Coach (Al) Golden and coach (Art) Kehoe went and saw me and my mom at her work," Mahoney said. "We talked for a while. They were talking about what's new, how training is going, how they're doing with practices and all that, what I'd major in, just catching up."

Mahoney says his major will likely be in the business management field.

He plans to take his Cane official visit the weekend of Jan. 16 - that is his lone official visit.

"I'm solid with Miami," he said. "I'm not taking any other visits."

Of what he sees for the future of the program after the disappointing 6-6 season, Mahoney said, "I don't think their record reflects how the team is. I definitely think after the FSU loss that was a pretty big hit. But us commitments, we all have faith in coach Golden, all the other coaches that the next couple of years we'll be contenders and get back on track."

Faith in Golden? I have better faith I could run through a police checkpoint drunk, holding the bottle and smoking a joint and get away, than I have in Gorlden!

Golden finds kids that buy into his ways and sayings. This kids comments sound just like Al. Can already hear this kid saying "I'm proud of our teams effort tonight but we just came up a bit short" after a loss to UVA at home

And so it begins……
Now we start hyping up our guys we have left to make ourselves feel better about the dumpster fire class we have. This reminds me of Kevin Nelson being the best MLB in the state, Keion Payne being the best cover corner in that STA secondary that also had Joyner and Riggs and so forth…..

This is exactly what's going on. I'm expecting some feel good stories soon about how our 2 star WR commit with 2 toes from the Catskills, Joey Giavocinella, overcame a bout of meningitis and barely has a noticeable limp.

Didn't hear about this guy Joey. Any highlights? Search on HUDL produced nothing.
