We have read various posts of how Miami needs to change leadership, how Miami will never be what it used to be. We at Moneyball DFS beg to differ. Miami has the 3rd highest strength of schedule rankings and ratings in the FBS this year. We lost to an overmatched, talented team and coaching staff in Alabama. We played a solid game against an APP State team that will probably not lose another game this season. Miami’s 2021 team has a solid team on offense, defense, and special teams. Manny Diaz has done a great job the past three years in upgrading the talent level at Miami. The Miami program can be read by looking at their performance against Appalachian State.

APP State

Through its history, the App State football program has won over 550 games, claimed three national championships, and appeared in the Division-I FCS playoffs 20 times. The Mountaineers have 19 conference championships and have one of the nation's best home field advantages. The program also has one Walter Payton Award winner, Armanti Edwards, who was the first player to win the award in back-to-back years (2008, 2009).

This year, App State has nine players in the NFL. Two weeks ago, App State beat East Carolina, 19-33, who lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks 20-17.

App State is not a bad team, on the contrary, they are an exceptional team. They have an all-star team put together by their coach, Shawn Clark. They used the transfer portal to gain FBS talent with the likes to Chase Brice, quarterback out of Duke, Stuart head, safety out of Stanford, Madison Cone, safety out of Wisconsin and Austyn Chestnut, athlete out of North Carolina.

App State had 153 rushing yards and 199 passing yards against Miami, compared to 226 rushing yards and 259 passing yards a week ago against East Carolina.

What should Miami expect against Michigan State?

Saturday will mark the fifth all-time meeting between MSU and Miami, but the first since 1989.

Through two games, Michigan State has performed well against Northwestern and Youngstown State. Against the Northwestern Wildcats, MSU’s QB, Payton Thorne, had 185 yds. passing and their running backs had 326 yards rushing. Their offensive line is stacked with talent across the board, and they average over 315 lbs. per player. Compared to Miami’s defensive line that averages 276 lbs. per player. Michigan State has the weight advantage and they will run rampant against Miami, and they will rush big numbers against Miami's undersized defense. Where the Miami offense has the advantage is in the passing and running game. D’Eriq King and his receivers and rushers will need to have a near perfect game to be able to keep up with Michigan States ball control offense. The fourth quarter will decide this game.

Moneyball DFS has MSU’s QB Payton Thorne with 217.5 yards while UM’s D’Eriq King with 215.5 yards. Bovada has Miami by 6 points, we disagree and have Miami by 2.5 points and predict a Miami win, 37 to 34.

"Miami by 2.5 at home against Michigan State" and "Miami is on track" are at odds with each other.
Winning with the third ranked sos in a game where the strength of the team they are playing outweighs your weakness by an average of 40 pounds may be.

Can't this sentence just be shortened to Miami has an advantage on offense? ha.
